Dear Colvin, My name is Ashley and I am a 3rd year music business student from Edinburgh. I was wondering if you could give me information on renting out the wee Red Bar for a live music event near the end of February. I am doing this as part of my university course in order to raise money for a much larger event in March based around Women in Music. Here are the details: Price - 4 at the door Dates - Feb 13th would be ideal but can work with it.the 27th or 28th would also be good Acts - Rebecca Shearing (confirmed) Lorraine McCauley (confirmed) Jen and the Gents (TBC) Any information or advice you can give would be greatly appreciated. Hi Ashley I remember you did a gig here a wee while ago. This is how it works here - please read carefully. A gig hire at the Wee Red is 130 cash in advance (covers sound engineer and security costs) and charge whatever price you want on the door. You or your friends would need to bring a float and take the door money. You can make a bit of money if you promote it well and split the hire cost with other with local like minded bands and sell merch. There is no budget to promote so this is the way we work. Promoters come and go and it's mostly just bands themselves doing it. We have a PA, monitors, mics, engineer etc. all here. We also have a drum kit (so no need to bring one just your breakables) and Peavey TKO 115 bass amp as backline. Please find our tech spec attached. Capacity is 200 and it is strictly 18 and over. Load in & soundcheck starts from 5, (if you need in earlier then you must let me know in advance please) doors open at 7 and all live music must finish at 10pm. Let me know what you want to do next. I am sure Feb 14th is free in the diary but I can check the other dates when I amback in the office on Saturday and let you know. Cheers, Colvin

Hi Ashley That's Thursday the 13th. confirmed in the diary for you now. Please read the following carefully and reply ASAP We have a drum kit as backline available to use if need be, drummers would just need to bring their snare, cymbals etc. Bass amp can be used in emergencies only. Please let me know in advance if you are using our backline. 130 cash hire fee confirmed, payable in advance. How much you are charging on the door? We don't make tickets here but you can get them made if you want. Capacity is 200 and it is strictly 18 and over. Please create a Facebook event invite and we can link in to our website etc. Also just to say please DO NOT fly-post (glue & paste or boards on lamposts etc) for this event as it's illegal and we can't run the risk of any trouble with the Council. Any evidence of this and the night will be pulled. I understand that you probably know this already BUT it's just something I have to say to every promoter. You can of course put posters up in shops and use the legal Unite poster boards if you like. They will paste up 20 A2 size posters for FREE. If you would like to do this I can send more details. Hey! Right so all three acts will be acoustic so they will bring guitars and leads, just need to be plugged in to system and be given microphone and a stand. Is that OK? I will be charging 4 on the door and as it is a fundraiser someone will be going round hastling people for change! See for tech specs, if the girls are all just bringing an electroacoustic guitar each do I need to ask them for any more information? Like make of guitar etc?
