Fat Duck is the famous restaurant with three Michelin stars, owned by Heston Blumenthal, English celebrity chef in Bray, Berkshire. The Fat Duck restaurant was multiple times selected as the best restaurant in Great Britain, obtaining the perfect 10/10 score. Heston Blumenthal is globally known chef, recognized in Croatia by Hestons feast tv show, where he showed king Henry VIII's mad parties, Caligula's Roman hedonic orgy, and Alice in Wonderland themed banquets. Isa Bal started his career as the deputy sommelier in Berkshire. While developing his passion towards wine, he discovered a gift of successful communication with guests by listening and understanding their wishes and needs. In 2005 he started to work in The Fat Duck restaurant as the chief sommelier. In 2008 he won the competition as the best sommelier in Europe. The prize contributed his career a lot, and gained him respect among his colleagues. Nowadays, he is also engaged in education and training of the young sommeliers. Wine list of The Fat Duck restaurant represents the collection of approximately 700 best wine sorts. In 2012, Isa Bal included Croatian wines on the wine list of this globally known restaurant. Isa's stay in Dubrovnik and wine tasting of the excellent regional wines is the best opportunity for our vintners to find their place on this impressive, world renowned wine list.
Michelin stars Michelin guide was originally published by Michelin brothers (tire manufacturers) in 1900, for the French motorists. In 1936., the three stars evaluation system was introduced. Michelin stars are the label of fine dining quality. Michelin inspectors focus on quality, mastery of technique, personality and constancy of food. There is no standardization, only quality on various levels. Inspectors are completely anonymous, in order not to receive any preferential treatment while evaluating. Earning the star is definitely one of the highest honors in this industry. 1* - a very good restaurant in its category, high standard. Good place to stop on your journey. 2* - excellent cooking and worth a detour. First class cuisine of its type. 3* - exceptional cuisine and worth a special journey. Often extremely expensive, and with an extensive wine list. Michelin guide provides a written description of each restaurant with a variety of symbols to give further insight into an establishment.
