Where/How to download LICAD

4. Click on the Download LICAD link. While you are downloading LICAD you should receive the registration email in your inbox as shown at the bottom of this page. If not, please check your junk mail, as the email is auto-generated and often goes to junk mail. Run the program and enter the Registration number from your email when requested.

LICAD Quick Start / Set up

1. From the home page, click on the lower left corner box labeled Specs.

2. Click on the Project Tab, and fill in whatever information you have, or leave it blank if you do not want the drawings you make assigned to a specific project (for example, if you are just practicing).

3. Click on the Specifications Tab. Your specs may differ, but the specs below are what our Estimating Department uses unless directed otherwise.

4. Click on the Settings Tab. Default settings are metric. To use the English Imperial system, check the 2nd and 3rd boxes as shown below. Normally, the pre-assembly angle and hydro-load boxes are also checked.

5. Click the Configurations Tab. Normally, none of these boxes are checked. However, if for example you want to design a hanger without the pipe clamp shown in the BOM or on the diagram, then check the 1st box. If you are replacing a hanger and the existing connection to the structure is still there, then check the 2nd box, etc.

6. Skip the Auxiliary Services Tab unless something here is specific to your project. The pricing built in is at full list price, and may not apply to your project.

7. Click on the Print Tab. Check any items that you would like printed on the drawing. You can add your logo by checking the company logo. Click on the box to the right of Company logo and navigate to your (.bmp) logo on your hard drive.

8. Click on the System setup Tab. Put your company name under registered for, and under additional put the computer name (or individuals name) where LICAD is being installed for the first time. This info prints out on each drawing so you can keep track of who produced the drawing, and confirm the Project, Specs, Settings, etc. that they have used in generating their drawings.

9. Click on the Hot-dip Galvanized Tab. Click on any items you would like HDG, or click on uncheck to remove all the checks in the boxes.

10. Click on the lower left icon to save your changes. If you want to protect these settings for this project with a password, then check the Password protection box, and enter your password. No changes to these settings will be allowed without entering the correct password, and different passwords can be used for different projects or systems. Make sure to keep your password(s) where they are accessible, but safe. Then Click on the RED X to return to the Home Page.

Selecting Where to Save LICAD Drawings

11. From the Home Page, click on the Project box.

12. Create a new location to save drawings (such as Charlie). Click on that folder and then click on the Change To box at the bottom of the screen. Drawings from this computer will now be saved in the created location. FYI, drawings can be saved on a server for others to access.

Example of Designing a Hanger for Static Loads

1. From the Home Page, click on Statics. Enter the minimum information as shown in the example below:

2. Once the load, pipe diameter, temperature, insulation thickness, and movements are entered, click on the green arrow in the lower right of the screen.

3. At this point, LICAD needs you to pick the basic configuration of the support or hanger needed. 68 different configurations are pre-loaded into the software. Some examples are shown below.

Config. #1

Config. #13

Config. # 65

4. Page thru the configurations and find your selection. Click on the Difference button if you know the dimension from bottom of steel to centerline of pipe. Click on the Notation button if you have the elevations. The input MUST be in the format x'- y.z", where x is in feet, y is in inches, and there is a hyphen in-between. Select configuration #13 in this example, then click the Difference button and input 10'-0.0" for simplicity. You can change the structural or pipe connections by clicking the appropriate radio button in the upper-right of your screen. Then click on the green arrow in the lower right.

5. You will get the drawing and BOM similar to what is shown below. Sliding the Zoom Bar to about 1.5 or 1.6 will enlarge the drawing to the maximum size for the paper print out. Any larger, and the pipe clamp will drop off the page.
