NETWORK DESIGN Network Design

Today, the company utilizes reliable but outdated networking technologies that cannot be considered as the most efficient already. Therefore, the following technologies were proposed to be used instead to solve this issue: WiMAX, VoIP, and SIP. The reasoning of such choice is simple: WiMAX technology is flexible and allows a company to choose the one, which is needed to cover the particular needs. WiMAX specifications have the range of working frequency, bandwidth, output power, transmission techniques and access methods of coding and modulation, the principles of re-use of radio frequencies and other parameters. Voice over Internet protocol has already become essential for the companies of different size and scale throughout the world and it is the basic communication instrument for most of them. It allows transmission of voice signals over the Internet and other IP networks. This protocol can be used in the offices of Riordan Manufacturing as the main connectivity tool during the working process. However, since VoIP requires the establishing of the quality internet connection (a symmetrical 10 Mbps connection), it is preferable to use SIP protocol between the offices in different regions. It can be used to transfer data via VoIP as well as PSTN. The overall network infrastructure of the Riordan Manufacturing is outdated as well. Bus and ring topologies require establishing of a very reliable and strong connection to assure interoperability of the business and its continuity. Star topology with application of newest achievements such as wireless communications within office is an excellent solution instead of bus topology. The connections between regional offices should be improved using new achievements in securing connection because WAN connections need to be protected by the appropriate means. In addition, backup connection between all key offices must be established to guarantee that any unexpected events would not shut down the business.

NETWORK DESIGN In order to improve network infrastructure and identify any security issues the current network in Riordan Manufacturing can be present, it is important to conduct traffic analysis. It is a set of procedures, aimed to deduce information from patterns by intercepting and examining messages (Alder, Bettati, Callas, & Matthewson, 2010; Mitchell, 2010). It is easy to conclude what effect data rates have on each part of the Riordan Manufacturing network. The lower data rates within offices are the less effective the work of the regional offices is. As the result, the efficiency of the regional branch in overall meaning will be lower than it could have been using high-speed connection. In addition, low-speed network do not allow Riordan Manufacturing implementing such new tools as videoconferencing, facilitated online communication, etc. and it can influence the quality of the work process rather substantially (Alder, Bettati, Callas, & Matthewson, 2010; Mitchell, 2010). Satellite connections between different regions should have high quality and assure high data rates because slow process of strategic data transmission could influence decisionmaking process. It means that inappropriately slow transmission of some part of the managerial or financial data between regional branches could lead to the process of stalling within the company and loss of positions in the future. Therefore, modern means of communication must assure the highest data rates possible in order to facilitate and support decision-making processes within Riordan Manufacturing. Therefore, the company needs to have the appropriate network topologies and the necessary hardware (Cisco.com, 2008). It is necessary to assure that all computers have access to the networks resources via switches and segments switches are connected together via routers. It is the only possible best strategy to ensure the availability of network access within Riordan Manufacturing. Thus, the company needs to rebuild its network to comply with modern needs (Cisco.com, 2008).
