The Christian Messenger

Each spring, we collect a special offering for either a project at our church or a mission abroad. This year, we have designated this offering to go to Lifeline Mission and their Navajo ministry.
Brad Seevers Senior Minister (740-550-9882) David Tingler Associate Minister

Lifeline Mission has begun working with the Navajo people of Arizona. The county in which they serve is one of the poorest counties in all the United States. Their ministry includes Red Sands Christian Church and Christian School. Their least of these outreach project helps them also connect to people living on the streets in Winslow, Arizona. Recently, Lifeline has been forced to do many renovations to their facility and currently they are trying to raise funds to replace an antiquated septic system so their ministry can continue. The completion of this project will allow Lifeline to add an additional fifty students in their school, which will enable them to impact more families for Christ. As of today, they still need to raise $5,800 for these renovations. Their goal was to do so by the end of Spring Break. Will you help? To check out more details on this project, go to www.Lifeline.org. Click the link on the home page that says: Ministering to the Navajo. Thank you for your help.

THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

I know much has been said and written about this, but I want to remind everyone that on Resurrection Sunday, April 20 th, we will transition to one combined service and will not offer two service options at this time. We are simply calling it Worship. We refuse to place a label on it. We are staying away from terms like: traditional, blended, and contemporary because we want our church to be known for unity, not division. This is something we have prayed about as your leadership and we hope spiritual maturity will be evidenced among all our church body. The Fifth Avenue Church of Christ seeks to bring glory to God through our corporate worship, and through our individual lives and by our chosen words and actions. Lets come together as one church, and may those who need Jesus find Him because we are faithful to His cause. I am growing more excited about our Summer Mission trip to Grundy, Virginia. Our trip is slated for June 29th-July 3rd. Last Sunday we had our second meeting regarding this week of service and we currently have twelve who are making this journey. I want to ask all of you to begin praying that God will use us in a mighty way as we seek to put our faith into action. We have great plans for May As you know, we have scheduled a traveling Prayer Wall that will be on display here at Fifth Avenue. We are inviting the community and many local churches to come and view it as well while it is located in Lancaster. Our Prayer Wall team has the following planned: May 17 - We will have a Prayer Breakfast at 8:45 with Ray Linn as our special guest speaker. After the breakfast (11:00-1:00), all church members are invited to participate in a Prayer Walk around the building as we pray about specific needs. We will open the building up for the community between the hours of 1:00-5:00 p.m. May 18 - During the morning, you will have opportunity to go to the Prayer Wall and adopt a tribe to pray for daily. You will be overwhelmed by how many still have never heard the name of Jesus around the world. I am especially excited to inform you that one of our former Associate Ministers will speak during our morning worship. Keith Dimbath, with Lifeline Mission, will be here to challenge us concerning the need to be Unleashed for the Unreached. There are many things to pray for and to be excited about here at Fifth Avenue. God is good all the time! In His Service, Brad 17th -18th.

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

FIRST KEENAGER EVENT FOR 2014: Hope you are all thawed out and ready for one of our adventures! On Thursday, May 8, we will be going to visit and tour the Adena Mansion and Gardens at Chillicothe. This is the restored home of Thomas Worthington, sixth governor of Ohio. The house was originally built in 1806-1807. (They will be having a sale of their heirloom plants and other goodies.) The tour will be preceded by lunch at the Golden Corral (in Chillicothe). The cost for admission and transportation is just $9 per person. Our departure time will be 10:00 AM. A sign-up sheet is posted on our bulletin board. (I would appreciate receiving your payment when you sign up.) SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY: This Sunday evening (4/13), we are examining Zechariah: Mastering Our Difficulties (Zechariah 4:7). We will complete this series next week with a look at Malachi. Do join us at 6:00 PM. MIDWEEK BIBLE STUDIES: We are, currently, involved in a study of I Timothy. This is one of my typical chapter and verse studies. I invite you to join either of our groups which meet at 10:00 AM and 6:30 PM. SENIOR SAINTS IN THE SMOKIES: We now have 9 folk registered to attend this grand event. There is still time to register! This will be the 30th anniversary for this senior event, held on the Johnson University (formerly Johnson Bible College) campus in Knoxville, Tennessee. The date is May 26-30. I would, certainly, encourage any of our folk to consider attending this great senior gathering (age 55 and up). To qualify for the early bird rate (a savings of $10 per person), registrations must be submitted by April 15. See me for registration forms or for any questions. FINAL THOUGHT: The only safe way to destroy an enemy is to make him your friend!

Elders The Elders meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 23rd at 7:30 p.m.

Authors often comment about "writing from the heart," or a work being the "book of my heart." Robin Lee Hatcher's recent release, A Promise Kept, was definitely written from her heart ... and continues to touch the hearts of her readers. Hatcher always tells a good story, but this is more than a good story. It's a beautiful work filled with the promise of God's grace and renewal and restoration. A work of fiction, the story is based on the author's own experience. The honesty and intimacy and gentle power of this book stay with the reader long after the last page has been read.

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are: Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through gracebased preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and SoonComing King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member. If you would like to take a Curious class, please indicate this on your Silent Roll Call Card.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
