Nortel Networks is once again demonstrating our technology leadership in optical networking, just as we did with the introduction of our 10 Gbps system in 1996. The OPTera Connect HDX is the key enabler of our next-generation optical network because of its scalability and its mesh functionality.

OPTera Connect HDX redefining optical networking economics

The OPTera Connect HDX is a core building block of Nortel Networks next-generation optical solutions. This comprehensive offering combines Nortel Networks OPTera product portfoliowhich includes switching, metro, and optical line systemswith industry-leading optical intelligence software to increase service providers protability with new, highly-differentiated services, innovative application delivery capabilities, and signicant network-wide cost savings. OPTera Connect HDX is redening optical networking economics by providing unprecedented scalability, throughput, and cost minimization,

while enabling service exibility, optimized connection, and network management (including automated provisioning, routing, and signaling) with the most efficient network-based protection and mesh restoration. OPTera Connect HDX leading technology provides service providers with a key competitive advantagethe ability to respond to market demands now, with smaller footprint at a lower cost operationand the ability to scale their networks on demand in the future. OPTera Connect HDX can respond to network applications from as low as 200 Gbps to over one terabit in a single footprint specically targeting: Nodal consolidation DCS modernization/replacement

The OPTera Connect HDX directly addresses capital expense (capex) and operating expense (opex) considerations by permitting consolidation and management of multiple services under one unied platform. OPTera Connect HDX permits wavelength connectivityin addition to grooming, aggregation, and restoration of subwavelength services within the network at line rates from 155 Mbps to 10 Gbps, 40 Gbps and beyond creating signicant network efficiencies and immediate cost savings. The OPTera Connect HDX provides full management of add/drop, transit, and pass-through traffic for all service mixes. The ability to provide full circuit grooming (STS-1 to STS-768c and VC4 to VC4-256c) as well as support end-to-end transparent services enables carriers to offer their customers a full suite of service capabilities.

Quad 10G (OC-192/STM-64) interfaces The OPTera Connect HDX supports high density 4 x 10G DWDM and short reach interfaces (the highest density in the market), allowing for higher port counts per footprint. These high density ports reduce installation and provisioning costs and facilitate new bandwidth deployment. 16x 2.5G (OC-48/STM-16) or 155/622M (OC-3/12/STM-1/4) interfaces With its high density 2.5G and 622/155 Mbps intermediate reach interfaces, OPTera Connect HDX cost-effectively meets the connectivity requirements of the core office, metro office, or any inter-office service requirements. Extensive BLSR/MS-SPRing and UPSR/SNCP support The OPTera Connect HDX optical switch has been architected to incorporate extensive UPSR/SNCP and BLSR/MS-SPRing support. From a simple capacity standpoint, the OPTera Connect HDX provides capacity for up to: 128 UPSR/SNCP rings 128 BLSR/MS-SPRing rings

No other platform in the market can support such a wide variety of multiple speed rings and topologies. Integration with OPTera Connect DX optical switch and more A combined OPTera Connect DX/HDX solution provides the exibility to tailor optical switching capabilities for the specic office applicationfrom the largest major hub site to a smaller regional office. The OPTera Connect HDX can directly subtend up to 32 OPTera Connect DX rings.
