Equipment (ammonia & nitrate)

Spectrometer Range : 0- 30 mg/L Name of model: HACH DR/2010 Its an instrument used to measure the reflection of light in the material as a function of wavelength. It was used in the nitrate test.

distilled water Water was used to clean the conical flask after completing the experiment, it was also used in both experiments to make the equipment zero.

Pipette pumps Capacity: 2ml Its an instrument to dispense small amount of variable, Used to add distilled water to the conical flask

Graduated cylinder Capacity : 10 ml

Graduated cylinder was used to pour the treated waste water accurately

Scissors Used to cut the seal on ammonia reagent and nitrate reagent.

Hach DR 2810 Range : 0- 0.50 mg/L Its an instrument used to in the ammonia nitrogen test.

Large sample cell It was used as a closed container to shake the liquids without leaking.

HACH nitrate reagent For determination of MR and HR nitrate by the NitraVer 5 cadmium reduction method, It was used in the nitrate test

HACH ammonia reagent For determination of ammonia by Ammonia Salicylate Reagent Powder Pillows and Ammonia Cyanurate Reagent Powder Pillows, it was used in the ammonia test

Procedure (nitrate) 1. Graduated cylinder was poured with 5ml of treated waste water (s2) and 5ml of distilled water and was poured in a sample cell. 2. The other graduated cylinder was poured with 10ml of treated waste water (s2) and was poured into sample cell.

3. Reagent was added into the sample cell

4. Equipment hach DR 2010 was switched on and then program 355 and then 500 wavelength was chosen 5. Timer was started and it was shaked into the larger sample cell for 1 minute

6. After 1minute timer was finished another 5 minutes timer was started but this time without shacking 7. The sample cell with 5ml of s2 and 5ml of distilled water was inserted into the equipment and zero was clicked to make the equipment zero 8. prepared sample cell was inserted into the equipment and reading was taken 9. the procedure was repeated for tape water (s1)

Procedure ( ammonia nitrogen )

1. four sample cell along with two graduated cylinders were prepared 2. 10ml of distilled water was added into 2 sample cells one for diluted and the other was for tape water 3. 10ml of s2(diluted) was added into 1 sample cell, actual value was equal to twice dilution factor 4. 5 ml of water with 5 ml of s1(tape water) was added into 1 sample cell 5. Equipment hach DR 2810 was switched on and then program 385 with wavelength 655 nm was chosen 6. ammonia salicylate reagent was added into all four of the prepared sample cells

7. Timer was started and it was shaked into the larger sample cell for 3minutes 8. Ammonia cyanurate reagent was added into all four of the sample cells 9. Another timer was started and it was shaked into the larger sample cell for 15minutes

10.Then the sample cell with distilled water was inserted into the equipment and zero was clicked to make the equipment zero 11.Diluted sample(s2) cell was inserted into the equipment and reading was taken 12.Then again the sample cell with distilled water was inserted into the equipment and zero was clicked to make the equipment zero 13.Tape water(s1) sample cell was inserted into the equipment and reading was taken
