Verbal Linguistic

1. Using a dictionary, find the root word of each of your spelling words. 2. Using your dictionary, find each of the meanings of your spelling words and write them in your book. 3. Write each of your spelling words out in alphabetical order. 4. Make a crossword puzzle using all of your spelling words. 5. Say your spelling words using, Look Say Cover Write Check. 6. Create a big word-search containing all your spelling words. 7. Find synonyms for each of your spelling words. How many synonyms can you find? 8. Write down as many antonyms for your spelling words as you can find. 9. Write a storybook for a younger student using all of your spelling words. Remember to include pictures. 10. Put each of your spelling words into the categories of Verb, Noun, Adverb, Adjective, Proper Nouns, etc. 11. Replace two letters in each spelling word to create new words. E.g b a t, b i g. 12. Logical Mathematical
1. Write the similarities between each of the spelling words. How are each of these words like each other. 2. Write out all your spelling words and circle the vowels in each word. 3. Write all of your spelling words out in one long row and circle any other words you can find. 4. Find smaller words in each of your spelling words. E.g. s h o p 5. Write a list of facts for each of your spelling words. e.g 1. difficult synonym for hard, antonym for easy. 2. February 2nd month of the year, shortest month of the year 6. Write each of your spelling words out in order from the shortest word on the list to the longest word on the list. 7. Create a code to decipher all the spelling words. 8. Create word webs using your spelling words. 9. Break all your spelling words into syllables. E.g tomato to, ma, to. 10. Write out your spelling words replacing each of the vowels with a star 11. Create word maps for your spelling words 12. Analyse your spelling worse and identify and patterns you can see e.g. cat, mat, hat

Naturalistic 1. Collect some sticks and leaves from outside and place them into shapes to make your spelling words. 2. Use a stick to write your spelling words outside in the sand. 3. Can you think of any animals in nature that make a noise found in any of your spelling words. E.g. hoop an owl says Hoooo! 4. Collect some small rocks outside and use them to form your spelling words. Bodily Kinaesthetic 1. Act out each of your spelling words and use a video camera to record it. Let a friend watch the video and guess each word as your mimed them. 2. With a partner, play character acting out one of your spelling words while your partner guesses the word. 3. Clap out the syllables of each of the spelling words. 4. Using your fingers write each of your spelling words on a friends back. See if they can guess which word you are writing. 5. Say your words out loud while jumping rope. 6. Make up a new dance movement for each syllable in your spelling word. Put all the movements together to make a dance to your favourite music.

7. Spelling a word using blue counters for vowels and red counters for consonants (if you dont have counters, write the words out and colour the letters accordingly) 8. Dance out the meaning of each of the words. 9. Spell your words out loud while standing up whenever a consonant appears, and sitting down whenever a vowel appears. 10. Spell your words using a serious of individual actions to represent the letters like a cheerleader.

Visual/Spatial

Create word puzzles, cut each puzzle up and see how quickly you can put all the pieces back together. Write each of your spelling words with a long piece of string. Grab a paintbrush, some point and some paper to paint on, and paint each of your spelling words in your favourite colours. Write each of your spelling words outside on the path using chalk. You might like to draw them in bubble writing and colour each one in or you may like to draw a picture depicting each spelling word.

Write your spelling words using pipe cleaners. Ask a partner to feel and guess the words while blindfolded. Cut each of your spelling words out of construction paper and past them down. Draw each of the spelling words as they sound. Finger paint your spelling words. Write each of your spelling words like graffiti. Use cotton woll to make each of your spelling words. Glue them to paper. Spread shaving cream over a window or a mirror and write each of your spelling words in it. Use play dough to create each of your spelling words. Blindfold a friend and ask them to feel the words and guess each one. Find a friend/family member and play a game of pictionary with each of the spelling words.

Interpersonal

Mime your spelling words for a friend. Can they guess which one you are miming? On small cards, write each of this weeks spelling words so you can play Celebrity Heads. Play scrabble with a partner only using the words on your spelling list

1. 2. 3. 4. Set some goals for improving one aspect of your spelling work. Think about the way you learn your spelling words at home. Can you think of more effective ways to learn them? List all the subjects you do at school. Where do you rank spelling? Look over your past spelling lists. How many words do you remember how to spell?
