Before commencing the installation Disconnect the power supply of the device. Ensure that devices cannot be accidentally restarted. Verify isolation from the supply. Earth and short circuit. Cover or enclose neighbouring units that are live. Follow the engineering instructions (AWA) of the device concerned. Only suitably qualified personnel in accordance with EN 50110-1/-2 (VDE 0105 Part 100) may work on this device/system. Before installation and before touching the device ensure that you are free of electrostatic charge. The functional earth (FE) must be connected to the protective earth (PE) or to the potential equalisation. The system installer is responsible for implementing this connection. Connecting cables and signal lines should be installed so that inductive or capacitive interference does not impair the automation functions. Install automation devices and related operating elements in such a way that they are well protected against unintentional operation. Suitable safety hardware and software measures should be implemented for the I/O interface so that a line or wire breakage on the signal side does not result in undefined states in the automation devices. Ensure a reliable electrical isolation of the low voltage for the 24 volt supply. Only use power supply units complying with IEC 60364-4-41 (VDE 0100 Part 410) or HD 384.4.41 S2. Deviations of the mains voltage from the rated value must not exceed the tolerance limits given in the specifications, otherwise this may cause malfunction and dangerous operation. Emergency stop devices complying with IEC/EN 60204-1 must be effective in all operating modes of the automation devices. Unlatching the emergency-stop devices must not cause restart. Devices that are designed for mounting in housings or control cabinets must only be operated and controlled after they have been installed with the housing closed. Desktop or portable units must only be operated and controlled in enclosed housings. Measures should be taken to ensure the proper restart of programs interrupted after a voltage dip or failure. This should not cause dangerous operating states even for a short time. If necessary, emergency-stop devices should be implemented. Wherever faults in the automation system may cause damage to persons or property, external measures must be implemented to ensure a safe operating state in the event of a fault or malfunction (for example, by means of separate limit switches, mechanical interlocks etc.).

1. Concerning the operating manual

This operating manual describes the installation, commissioning and use of the M22(S)-ESA finger print system. For installation and commissioning eltrical knowledge is a prerequisite.

2. Introduction
2.1 Target group
The unit M22(S)-ESA (ESA = electronic Securityassembly) may only be mounted and connected by a trained electrician or by someone who has knowledge of electrical installations. M22-ESA = Finger sensor with titan coloured front ring M22-ESA = Finger sensor with black front ring The biometrical key M22(S)-ESA is an industrial switch with integrated fingerprint identification. Up to 100 fingerprints can be administered. These can be divided into three different user groups. With this system a switch function can be obtained simply from fingerprint identification. The sensor reads the fingerprint that is then processed and evaluated by an integrated picture processing unit. The operation and the commissioning and the inputting of the fingerprints takes place via the operating unit MFD-Titan (MFD-CP4-800 + MFD-80-B). The identification operation can take place without extra units. The operating status is shown by LEDs (Ready/Processing/Error).

2.2 Conditions for use

The unit M22(S)-ESA is a mountable unit and must be mounted into an enclosure, e.g. a switchboard or an operating panel. The front part (sensor) has IP65 protection. The power supply and the signal connections must be wired and shrouded to protect against accidental contact. The installation must conform to the EMC regulations. The M22(S)-ESA must not be used for a safety relevant function.

4. How does the fingerprint identification function?

The fingerprint identification is based on the newest algorithems for picture processing that has a speed that up to now was not possible for such a high processing speed and reliable identification and security. For this purpose the individual finger lines, their ends and branches are used as characteristic features (minutiea). Due to the natural variety of fingers and also technical conditions faultless functioning of the system under all operational conditions cannot be guaranteed. With certain fingerprints the system cannot be used. This can be the case, for example, with injuries, fingers with especially few features (minutiea), especially smooth skin and especially flat finger lines. Also in certain situations, depending upon the parameters of the algorithums, a false rejection and in very few cases a false acceptance is possible. So, for example, injuries, dry skin, dirt, moisture or differing sweeps of the finger may prevent identification. Poorly entered fingers, fingers with few evaluable features and very similar fingers could in a very few cases lead to false indetification. When a finger is swept over the sensor the system reads, via the sensor, a picture of the fingerprint.

further use the picture must be prepared. The picture preparation software optimises the picture so that only the finger lines are saved in the picture. The spurious picture elements are filtered out.

Then the typical features of the fingerprint (minutiea) are determined. The type of features (forking, swirl, island, ellipse, etc.) and their relative position to each other are stored in a template. The template is a dataset in which a complete fingerprint is described by its features. In comparison to the picture delivered from the sensor it is very small.

By identification the template of the currently read fingerprint is compared with the already stored templates. An adjustable number of fingerprint features must correspond so that the finger is identified as valid. If not enough features correspond the finger is rejected.

7.1 Using the fingerprint identification

The system operates better and more consistantly when more features can be read. That is the case when the sensor can deliver good pictures. To achieve this a few points should be noted when the finger is swept over the sensor. These are given below. Sweep the finger over the sensor as flat, large and straight as possible. Sweep the finger at a constant speed (approx. 0.5 - 1 second) in a straight line from top to bottom over the sensor. Note: When a finger is swept over the sensor at the wrong speed or in the wrong direction the LED shows red for a short time and an error message appears on the MFD Sweep slower, Sweep faster or Sweep strgt. For explanation of the the error messages see section 9 Overview error description Always sweep the finger similarly over the sensor by learn and by identify (same position, same angel). Then the same features will be identified. When the finger is swept over the sensor differently then different features are found by learn and identify and therefore there is no acceptable match of the features. Sweep the finger over the sensor so that as many as possible features are learnt (forking of fingerlines, swirl, branches). Keep the sensor clean during the identification operation. The system works the best when the conditions for learn and later identification are as similar as possible( finger swept over sensor the same, clean sensor, same skin condition, same enviromental conditions).

8. Display mode : Operation via MFD-Titan or PC software

When the M22(S)-ESA is connected to the Terminal MFD-Titan it is in display mode and the device can be operated interactively. The operation and output is via the device MFD-Titan. When the MFD-Titan is connected it takes a few seconds before the text screen is available. When a identification process is still running Identfy (RUN) shows in the top line. Wait until the process is finished. After a short time the main menu will appear which can be operated via the keyboard of the MFD-Titan.

LEARN IDENTIFY USERS... PARAMETER...

The text based interface is defined as follows: The menu point are in large letters; no special symbols A maximum of 4 menu points are shown at the same time. The type of the menu point is shown by an extra symbol after the menu text. After selection by confirmation with the OK button, the following actions occur: Extra symbols <none> ... : Activated action the menu point activates the action the menu point leads to a sub-menu the menu point shows an editable parameter

With more than 4 menu points the screen contents can be moved vertically using the arrow buttons. For each operation the menu is moved one place up or down. The arrow buttons are shown to the right of the screen. The selected menu point is shown flashing The OK button is for selection When not otherwise used, the arrow right is similar to OK. ESC is abort/return to main menu. When not otherwise used, arrow left is abort/return to main menu, similar to ESC. Editable parameter: when OK is pressed a cursor replaces the first position of the parameter. - with arrow buttons up/down the value can be altered. - with arrow buttons left/right the position can be selected. - The altered parameters are taken over when OK is pressed - When ESC is pressed the action is aborted without alteration/save. When not otherwise used, arrow button left has the ESC function and the arrow button right has the OK function.

To leave the display mode end the connection with the Terminal MFD-Titan, by removing cable or switching off the MFD. After a short time without connection the system changes automatically to the stand alone mode. This can be seen as the LED changes for a short time to orange.

8.1 Menu LEARN

With this menu point fingerprints can be inputted. The Learn process of the fingerprint determines considerabley the quality of the later identification. . As an optional identification safety the algorithum offers the possibility of inputting a fingerprint several times. The inputted fingerprints are changed to templates and at the end of the process saved together as one template. This process is called Merge. By the Merge process the template contains a greater number of features that can later be used for identification, as by when the finger is only once inputted. This process is controlled bay the parameter TPLCOUNT (see Table 1: Adjustable parameters). Preset is three Learn processes. To learn one fingerprint the finger must be swept 3 times over the sensor. When this menu point is selected follow the following steps : Step 1: Sweep the finger over the sensor

Automatically when the M22(S)-ESA1 is switched on Via password menu ADMIN LOGOUT A session is ended when the M22(S)-ESA1 has no connection to the MFD-Terminal for longer than 10 seconds.

OK Change password ADMIN LOGOUT ESC

When the session is ended, the menupoint ADMIN LOGOUT must be confirmed. When more than one finger is stored the system springs automatically to identification mode Before entry into the blocked menu point the password is requested.

When the correct password is given all menupoints are available for the complete session. It should be noted that when ending a session the user activates the submenupoint ADMIN LOGOUT in the main menu. Otherwise a third person has unprotected access to the system

8.4.2 Menupoint SECURITY In the M22(S)-ESA to be entered SECURITY parameters are the values for the FAR and FRR parameters. There are three different security levels available for the identification: Low = low security => low FRR however with a few not so infrequent FAR Med = medium security => medium FRR but with a few infrequent FAR of the finger Hi = high security => high FRR but witha few very infrequent FAR of the finger After the reading of the fingerprint and the processing the current template and the stored template are compared with each other. The probability that both templates for every bit agree with each other is very unlikely. This is due to irregularities of the scanned fingerprint, differences in the picture preparation process, etc.. Basically there are two sorts of false identification: FAR False acceptance : (False positive identification of the fingerprint) A non-authorised fingerprint achieves via its template picture a set potential comparison with a stored template. This leads to a positive identification. This value is determined via the selection of the SECURITY parameter. FRR False rejection: (False negative identification of the fingerprint) An authorised fingerprint does not acheive via its template picture the minimum set potential comparison with a stored template. This leads to a negative identification. This value is determined via the selection of the SECURITY parameter.

To accept these values a new start of the device is necessary. After saving the new parameters the question must be confirmed with OK. The devices starts again so that the connection can be stopped for a short time and then started again. Afterwards the device in in main menu mode.

9. Overview error messages

The error messages are given in plain language in English. This is independant from the selected language.

Name No sensor

Description NO sensor or wrong sensor connected Possible cause: Sensor unit not correctly connected. Check the connection of the sensor unit with the basic unit. There are no users available in the database. Identification is not possible. Possible cause: No fingerprints have been inputted.

No users

No memory

No free memory capacity for fingerprint Possible cause: All memory capacity used up. Before a new user can be entered a user must be deleted. Inputting: an inputted fingerprint exceeds the maximum data size. Input this finger again or reduce the parameter TPLCOUNT.

Sweep faster Sweep slower Sweep strgt Sweep longer No match

The finger was swept too slowly, or in the wrong direction, across the sensor The finger was swept too fast, or in the wrong direction, across the sensor The finger was not swept straight across the sensor The finger was swept too short across the sensor With identification or input with several templates the comparison has failed. Infrequent false rejections are normal. Should this occur oftener the following measures could be carried out: - sweep the finger again - clean sensor - input finger new - clean finger - moisten/wipe skin Possible cause: Finger swept wrongly Finger not entered Finger dirty Skin too dry/moist Sensor dirty Sensor defective

Low quality

By identification or inputting the quality of the picture is not good enough Possible cause: Finger swept wrongly Finger dirty Skin too dry/moist Sensor dirty

Low features

By identification or input the number of features is not enough. Infrequent false rejections are normal. Should this occur oftener the following measures could be carried out: - sweep the finger again - clean sensor - input finger new - clean finger - moisten/wipe skin - input another finger Possible cause: Finger wrongly applied Finger dirty Skin too dry/moist Sensor dirty

READ

Wrong check total when reading configuration from the flash Possible cause: Configuration not correctly writen. Remedy: Write configuration again Flash: Read error at self test. During the initialisation the software carries out a self test from which a test total is determined. Possible cause: Hardware defect
