2. Introduction
2.1 Target group
The unit M22(S)-ESA (ESA = electronic Securityassembly) may only be mounted and connected by a trained electrician or by someone who has knowledge of electrical installations. M22-ESA = Finger sensor with titan coloured front ring M22-ESA = Finger sensor with black front ring The biometrical key M22(S)-ESA is an industrial switch with integrated fingerprint identification. Up to 100 fingerprints can be administered. These can be divided into three different user groups. With this system a switch function can be obtained simply from fingerprint identification. The sensor reads the fingerprint that is then processed and evaluated by an integrated picture processing unit. The operation and the commissioning and the inputting of the fingerprints takes place via the operating unit MFD-Titan (MFD-CP4-800 + MFD-80-B). The identification operation can take place without extra units. The operating status is shown by LEDs (Ready/Processing/Error).

3. Device overview
The complete unit M22(S)-ESA consists of two components which are shown below. The front piece, shown as M22(S)-ESA1, is the finger guide and contains the sensor necessary for the finger identification. This is in the middle of the finger guide. The evaluation electronics for the finger identification is in the M22-ESA-R.

further use the picture must be prepared. The picture preparation software optimises the picture so that only the finger lines are saved in the picture. The spurious picture elements are filtered out.
Then the typical features of the fingerprint (minutiea) are determined. The type of features (forking, swirl, island, ellipse, etc.) and their relative position to each other are stored in a template. The template is a dataset in which a complete fingerprint is described by its features. In comparison to the picture delivered from the sensor it is very small.
By identification the template of the currently read fingerprint is compared with the already stored templates. An adjustable number of fingerprint features must correspond so that the finger is identified as valid. If not enough features correspond the finger is rejected.

6. Commissioning
The sensor unit M22(S)-ESA1 must be plugged into the basic unit M22-ESA-R. Connect the power supply to the 2 pole voltage terminals. Connect the device to be controlled to the relay terminals. See illustration on rear of the M22-ESA-R housing Switch on power supply. After switch-on the device carries out a self check. The LED on the module shows for a short time red, then flashes orange and is then green. Note: Should that not be the case or another false function appears immediately switch off the power supply and check the relevant wiring once again. After a successful start (the LED is green) the device can be commissioned. Connect the MFD-CP4-800 or the PC with the M22-ESA-R After plugging in activate the terminal mode of the MFD-Titan: - confirm with the OK button -Select menu point Terminal mode/Start mode - confirm with OK - More concerning Terminal mode can be found in the MFD-Titan User Manual At the first commissioning the required language must be sekected. 8.4.1 Menu point PASSWORD As an option various functions (learn; user; parameter and diagnosis) can be protected with a 6 figure password. The password can be found under the menu point PARAMETER. The default password is 000000. That means that when entering a security relevant area no password is requested. The numbers 0-9 are selectable. The following functions are available in the menu: Scroll in the list: To navigate in the list use the arrow buttons: Arrow up/down: 1 Menu point forward/backwards ESC / arrow left: Spring back to submenu parameter OK / arrow right: Change to select mode The selected menu point flashes Edit password: By pressing the OK button the name can be edited. The value to be edited flashes. Use of buttons during editing: arrow up/down: Value increase/decrease Arrow left/right: spring to next/last password position ESC: spring back in the selection mode without alteration OK: Altered values taken over
Should the password be changed it must be confirmed before leaving the parameter menu that the alteration should be saved.
Before the password is used, where necessary make a note of the password. If the password is not known after the alterations are confirmed the protected submenu point can no long be activated. The password can then only be set back when the device is returned to the manufacturer. Stored finger data and entered parameters can then be retained.

Activate passwort The password is requested once per session. When the number code is no longer 000000, the number code is requested when one of these menu points are selected. The password is requested for the menu points: - LEARN - USER - PARAMETER - DIAGNOSIS An existing password can be activated in three ways. Automatically when the M22(S)-ESA1 is switched on Via password menu ADMIN LOGOUT A session is ended when the M22(S)-ESA1 has no connection to the MFD-Terminal for longer than 10 seconds.
When the session is ended, the menupoint ADMIN LOGOUT must be confirmed. When more than one finger is stored the system springs automatically to identification mode Before entry into the blocked menu point the password is requested.
When the correct password is given all menupoints are available for the complete session. It should be noted that when ending a session the user activates the submenupoint ADMIN LOGOUT in the main menu. Otherwise a third person has unprotected access to the system

8.4.2 Menupoint SECURITY In the M22(S)-ESA to be entered SECURITY parameters are the values for the FAR and FRR parameters. There are three different security levels available for the identification: Low = low security => low FRR however with a few not so infrequent FAR Med = medium security => medium FRR but with a few infrequent FAR of the finger Hi = high security => high FRR but witha few very infrequent FAR of the finger After the reading of the fingerprint and the processing the current template and the stored template are compared with each other. The probability that both templates for every bit agree with each other is very unlikely. This is due to irregularities of the scanned fingerprint, differences in the picture preparation process, etc.. Basically there are two sorts of false identification: FAR False acceptance : (False positive identification of the fingerprint) A non-authorised fingerprint achieves via its template picture a set potential comparison with a stored template. This leads to a positive identification. This value is determined via the selection of the SECURITY parameter. FRR False rejection: (False negative identification of the fingerprint) An authorised fingerprint does not acheive via its template picture the minimum set potential comparison with a stored template. This leads to a negative identification. This value is determined via the selection of the SECURITY parameter.
To accept these values a new start of the device is necessary. After saving the new parameters the question must be confirmed with OK. The devices starts again so that the connection can be stopped for a short time and then started again. Afterwards the device in in main menu mode.
