MR. JONES AND FATOU FAYE QAIRAWAN ALHAJERI MAJOR/CAREERS MEMO MARCH 20, 2014 ISTARTSTRONG REPORT

ATTACHMENTS:

Before I came to George Mason University I chose Mechanical Engineering as my desired major, because I like working with machines and solve mechanic problems that are based on physics, but unfortunately George Mason University do not have the major Mechanical Engineering in their Engineering College, which I was so sad when I found out that I cant do Mechanical Engineering. The career I hope to have is to be working on something that is related to my major field, like dealing with machines and numbers. One thing that I consider it as a reason of choosing Mechanical Engineering is that job opportunities for Mechanical Engineers in my country Kuwait are so easy to get as we have KOC (Kuwait Oil Company) that needs so many Engineers to work in their company. After one semester at Mason I didn't really get ideas or thought about my major because I didn't have an Engineering major course in my first semester, I only had the general courses in GMU. My top three themes are: Realistic, Conventional, and Investigative. Realistic means that I have interests in Machines, computer networks, and working outdoors. Conventional means that I have the ability to work with numbers, data analysis, finance, and have attention to details. And lastly Investigative refers to lab work performance, medicine, mathematics, and researching. My three-letter interest code is RCI. Every thing listed in the result sheets sound is almost sounds like me, 95% I agree to the result given. However, some of the interests listed are not expressing me, for example, conducting researches is not my type of person, I don't like to do researches. In the other hand, attention to details is absolutely me, I totally agree with it. Im a very picky person. I think the Artistic theme sounds like me, but not as 1

the number 1 theme, because I like to design and Im very interested in culinary arts. Number 1 theme is in its right place. My top 3 specific interests are: Mechanics & Construction, Computer Hardware & Electronics, Nature & agriculture, because I like working with tool, I have a big interest in operating equipment, which makes Mechanics ands construction as my top specific interest. Another thing is that I like to take care of plants, and feeding animals. The first occupation that I chose is Electrical Engineering technologist, it requires the knowledge of mathematics and physics. The skills that are needed to get it are to have critical thinking, and the skill that solves complex problems. In order to get this job it needs the ability to have the sense if there is something wrong need, or needs to be corrected. The second job that I chose is Mechanical Engineer that requires to have the knowledge of designing, because mechanical Engineering is based on sketching and designing. However, it requires some skills, which are judgment and decision-making and also Mathematics. Lastly, in order to get the job I have to have the ability to see details at close range, and the ability to arrange things in a certain order or according to a specific rule. I think the KSAs requirements are a good fit for me. The major that might help me acquire those KSAs is the Electrical Engineering. Ive learned that Im really a science person; I like to work with tools and equipment, and some biology. I also learned that Im not a social person, which is so sad. I think I will use my themes in order to do more researches.
