Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It is my joy to greet you again in the precious name of our Lord and Savior. I pray that God will bless you with the fulness of His Spirit, and that you will experience
more and more of His joy in this year of our Lord.

I want to urge you to make this a year of personal involvement with a missionary of
your own choosing: Pray for him every day;
Write him a note every month;

Support him on a regular basis.

Your personal support of $5 or even $10 coming to him every month will give him a very clear message You are with him in his work. Money is life, and when you give of your money to the world-wide outreach of the Gospel, you are in fact giving of your time, your energy, and your life. Share your life with God's world in '88 that's something
great: ^

Cape Town, the Mother City of South Africa, is growing rapidly; and with it comes a

growing need for the outreach of the gospel.

Suddenly, beyond Cape Town's International

Airport, BLUE DOWNS is on the map and it is estimated that by the turn of the century BLUE DOWNS will be a sprawling town housing more than h million people. And just as suddenly God has led us to sell our home in Westridge and apply for a house in Tuscany Glen, one of the first suburbs to be developed in BLUE DOVJS. Our first Bible Study in

BLUE DOWNS will be held on Wednesday, Lord willing, in the home of the McClune family. /
It was my privilege, on Tuesday, to lead a Bible Study in MANENBERG in the home of Brother
Fanie, on 1st Corinthians.

Thursday evenings at the home of Brother James Dunjua on Montevideo Street near the
Mitchell's Plain Town Center we are continuing with, our studies on ACTS and PREACHING FROM THE OLD TESTAMENT. Last.week we considered Paul's defence Before Agrippa, and the
authority of tlie Old Testament in the church.

Brother Khota of Knysna has again arrived in Cape Town, and we are looking ;^ward to renewing our fellowship with him. In my private study time I am now svunmarizing William
Hendrikse's Comentary on the Gospel of John for use in coming lessons at TUSCANY GLEN. Please do continue to pray for our ministry as we also continue to pray for you.

What a great God we serve, my brothers and sisters in the Lord. He has brought us through many dangers and trials. He has loved us with an incomprehensible love, and he loves us still. We can only praise him, and thank him, and love him in return.
And I have prayed for you, for all of you, on my knees and asked my God to fill you

with his spirit, with his love, with his joy, and with perfect peace of mind and
heart.

KYALITSHA (meaning new home) is a new giant sprawling black township on the outskirts of Cape Town. God is opening new doors for us for teaching and preaching tho gospel there. At a church service in a school building I brought a communion meditation on the sacrifice of Christ, while at cottage meetings I have started weekly lessons on church growth. As we drove through Kyalitsha i t was clear that i t consisted of 3
seperate sections

1.
2.

The rough tin shanties.

The small concrete block homes.

3.

The big fancy houses.

BLUE DOWNS, the giant new Molato housing area, lies just north of KYALITSHA across SETTLER'S WAY, the start of the scenic Garden Route. New houses are going up here every day, and our new home is scheduled for completion in July. We have already started Bible studies in the home of Charlie and Vivienne McClune on the Gospel of
JOHN. Please pray for God's blessing on these new ventures.

Our Lord's Day services continue in PORTLANDS, MITCHELL'S PLAIN in the home of Bro, James Dunjua, with messages based on EPHESIANS? and on Monday evenings our OUTREACH GROUP meets in LENTEGEUR, with lessons on the Christian Life dealing currently with the subject of Marriage and Divorce.
On Tuesday evenings we meet at MANENBERG in the home of Bro. Fanie for studies on the
books of CORINTHIANS.

At the market in Epping I recently discussed God's testing of Abraham's faith by asking him to sacrifice Isaac. Our faith is also tested even as fire tests gold,

but God is completely dependable. He will never allow us to be tested beyond the limits of our endurance, but will guide us safely through every trial, provided only that we remain committed to Him. I am thankful also to God for opening doors
of other opportunities for me to witness for Him in EPPING. On Thursday evenings our regular Bible Studies continue on MONTEVIDEO WAY with lessons from the book of ACTS as well as theological studies on PREACHING FROM THE
OLD TESTAMENT.

I have been invited to PORT ELIZABETH for a series of meetings over the Easter week end on the subject "NEW LIFE IN CHRIST." Lord willing I shall be flying there on Good Friday, returning on Monday. Since there are a number of problems and divisions among the churches I ask for your earnest prayers that the Holy Spirit of God may guide and bless these meetings for the glory of His mighty name.

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

First, I praise and thank my God for each and every one of you, for your faith and

trust in Him, and for your thankfulness in every situation, which is even now leading
to great peace of mind and heart I especially thank Bryce and Judy Morgan, who, even in times of illness, have labored faithfully as forwarding agents on my behalf. And I

thank each one of you who have prayed for me and helped me in my work not that I speak
in respect of need, for God has taught me to be content in every situation; but I am glad for your sake, because I know that God will reward you for all you do for Him.
It was my privilege last week-end to visit the brethren in Port Elizabeth, and to share

with them som^lessons from I TIMOTHY.

I took the economical Midnight Flight to P.E.

and was met at the airport by Desmond Amsterdam, a friend who serves as Public Prosecutor

at the Law Court. He attended part of the lessons in the GELVANDALE area, and was most

impressed by the zeal and dedication of the brethren there, for, knowing the people, he
said, "It is very hard to be a Christian in Gelvandale."

50 were present at the Sunday evening service, and 8 came forward to dedicate themselves afresh to the Lord, and to ask for prayer for themselves, for others, and for the leaders

of the church.

During the week-end I brought 4 lessons, conducted 1 workshop for elders

and deacons, preached 2 messages, led in prayer at Bloemendal, brought a devotional

message from Job at Booysens Park, and led a discussion on church finance in the home

of Brother Goliath. This last was occassioned by the tight grip which the MISSION exercises over the finances of the local congregations here, contrary both to scripture usage and
to the practice of our churches in the United States.

On one of my trips from Port Elizabeth to Booysens Park I picked up a High School student
named Peter. I had an opportunity to explain to him from I TIMOTHY that God wants us to have love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a strong faith.

I also received a long-distance call from the "TRAIN MINISTRY" asking me to bring two
messages , at their May 31 meeting on the theme "The Inward and Outward Journeys'.' The

idea is to present the Inner spiritual growth and Outer proclamation of the gospel.
I also visited Gordon Konstable at Tygerberg Hospital. He had suffered a head injury in a motorcycle accident. There were a number of other visitors and patients present as I brought a short message and prayer. Brother Maille, who preaches at BEL HAR, injured his back trying to apprehend an intruder, and Brother James and I visited his home to bring a message to the family. I have also received a call to make a preaching visit to the CISKEI in the near future, and I ask your prayers for me on this trip.
Our Monday meetings at LENTEGEUR are continuing on the theme of the Christian Life.

This week's lesson centred on the family.

Brother Fanie's family in MANENBERG are es^eriencing severe difficulties as Brother

Fanie has left home and gone to KNYSNA. Please pray for them in this trying situation. We have prayed with them, and tried to help with their financial problems. Brother
James and I will be visiting them again this Tuesday, Lord willing.

At our Cottage Meetings in the Hazeldene area on Wednesdays we are continuing our studies on "Christian Marriage." This is a subject which needs to be taught much among our people. Last week we discussed the part of the wife in marriage. On Thursday evenings at PORTLANDS we are now entering a new series of Bible studies on the book of ROMANS; while on Sunday mornings I am preaching on the book of PHILIPPIANS.

This Sunday we had two visitors, and there were also two who came forward for prayer.

Dear Brothers and Sisters

May God's grace and blessings be yours. I am deeply grateful for your prayers and concern for this ministry, because I know i t shall result in much joy and blessing.
A faithful member of our Monday OUTREACH GROUP, Archie Bailey, died recently of cancer. We visited him both at home and at Groote Schuur Hospital, and also spent time with the family both during and after the funeral. He had a very strong faith, and when asked "How are you?" he would reply, "God's grace is sufficient for me, but how is i t with your soul? Are you right with the Lord?" Brother Khota of KNYSNA is in the process of moving to KYALITSHA in Cape Town. We went to meet him at the bus, and after supper took him to KYALITSHA where we had several discussions and Bible studies with family and friends. He has now gone to
Butterworth in the TRANSKEI for the funeral of one of the elders there.

I have just returned from a trip to KNYSNA where I was called to bring some lessons,

and also preached a message on the book of GALATIANS on the subject "FREEDOM IN CHRIST."
Brother Goliath of PORT ELIZABETH is now in PAARL for a funeral on Saturday. I have

just spoken to him on the phone, and he has asked me to bring the message there. At the EPPING MARKET last month I brought a lesson to the council workers on the subject "Back to Bethel." Jacob, you will remember, decided to take his family and go back to the place where had first met God. We can and should do the same. Brother Hi;ibert Leve of MIDDLEBURG, with whom I worked closely for many years in and around PORT ELIZABETH, passed away recently. I sent a letter of sympathy and encouragement to his wife and family and the brethren there. Each lunch hour at the FARMER'S CO-CP I am bringing messages from the gospel of Luke. Today we discussed our Lord's command to love our enemies. We may not like them, but we must be concerned about them, help them, and pray for them to repent, and welcome them when they do. Our Lord Himself prayed, "Father, forgive them; they know not
what they do."

Wednesday evening Bible Studies have been held this month at TUSCANY GLEN, KENSINGTON, MANITOBA AVE. and KUNENE WAY. Our theme is the gospel of John, At the Anglican Church of Christ the Mediator in PORTLANDS I brought a message on the "Spiritual Harvest."

Sunday services at the home of Brother James continue with messages on "Philippians',' with Thursday evening Bible lessons centering around the book of Romans, while our
Monday Outreach lessons on "THE CHRISTIAN LIFE" are now in the book of Hebrews.

Our forwarding agents Bryce and Judy Morgan are presently taking a well-deserved and long overdue vacation. We do pray for their safety and once again thank them for their tireless efforts on our behalf. Brethren please pray for us, as we also
remember you continually in our prayers.

Thanksgiving, 1988

Chesterton, IN. 46304 U.S.A.

It is with joy in my heart, and a prayer for God's grace and blessing upon you that I bring you this news from Cape Town, South Africa. You are often in my thoughts and prayers, I thank my God for your faith and love? and I deeply appreciate your prayers and your -support for the outreach of the gospel to other lands. At this season of thanksgiving we have so much to be thankful for. God has created us in His own image. He has breathed into us the breath of life. He has sent His own son to take upon himself the awful punishment for our sin. The Lord Jesus Christ not only died for our sins, he rose again, and ascended to the right hand of God, promising "Because I live, you shall also live." Even now he prays for us, and prepares a place
for us, for i t is his earnest desire that we should be with him. It is no wonder then
than we read in Revelation when we come before him in glory and he wipes every tear out

of our eyes that ..."there will be silence in heaven for about a half an hour." What can we say? How can we thank him for all he has done? He also will take us by the
shoulders, and no words will be able to express the feeling of those moments. Then,

as our minds slowly absorb the contrast between the trials of earth with the glory of eternity, our hearts will well up with praise and thanksgiving, erupting into the sounds of a new song that echoes into the far reaches of a new heaven. And the Lord
Jesus will be both chef and waiter in that fantastic heavenly restaurant. And to you

he will say, "I am so glad that I have longed for this moment."

you are finally here. You will never know how much Oh what a day that will bel^

I am personally thankful to God for giving me a ministry here in Cape Town, for opening doors which none can shut. Sunday morning it was my privilege to bring a message in
PORTLAND on "The Return of Christ." In the afternoon at BERNADINO EJEIGHTS I gave a

lesson on "Life in the Spirit" Last Monday at LENTEGEUR , where we are studying the book of Revelation, our subject was "The Letters to the 7 Churches." It is to the luke warm Christian that the Lord says, even today, "I am standing at your hearts door and knocking." To those who overcome their indifference and return to a zealous and whole
hearted commitment to the Lord he will grant to sit with him on his throne.

From KNYSNA comes the news that another 2 have been baptized, while in KHALITSHA Brother Khota has moved to a newvarea where he plans to hold regular Bible Studies. A church in MITCHELL'S PLAIN has asked me to bring weekly Bible Lessons to them in the New Year,
and the GOSPEL TRAIN MINISTRY has invited me to hold another Seminar in December. In

WORCESTER Brother Franklin Visser is still working among the youth in various churches.
He was a student at our lunch-time studies at the FARMER'S CO-OP. These studies are

still continuing with lessons now on the gospel of Luke.

Lord willing we will be moving to meeting there in the McClune home your hearts to be troubled. Keep concern for his disciples led him

TUSCANY GLEN this week-end. At a recent house-church I spoke on John 14. The Lord said., "Do not allow
on trusting in God, and keep on trusting in me." His to speak these words on the eve of his crucifixion.

He knew that this would be a blow to their faith, but urged them to keep on trusting him. In the same way we also come up against blows to our faith, but we must not

permit these things to trouble our hearts.

We must keep on trusting in the Lord.

At the home of BROTHER DUNJUA on Thursday we studied Romans 8, where we learned that "when we keep trusting God we learn to wait patiently and confidently, and the Holy Spirit helps us with our problems and in our prayers, and we know that God is working all things together for good if we love Him and fit into His plans for our life."
