AS Media Studies Evaluation question 4

Who would be the audience for your music magazine?

My audience for my magazine would be a niche audience rather than a mass audience. It would be aimed at mainly young people, mainly adolescents, due to the fact that grime is a relatively new genre so I aimed for an audience from 14- 24 which is a relatively small audience for a magazine but seeing as grime is a new genre there is a lack of established grime magazines which means my magazine could fill the void in the grime magazine market. My audience would be aimed at mainly youths from working class families as grime isnt seen as a middle/upper class music genre. I would focus my magazine on mainly the more independent grime artists who have strong links to working class areas so it has more appeal to the youths in the working class areas. My magazine would be 3.00 because my target audience would not have much disposable income so I have aimed to make my magazine cheaper but still have a consistently high level of quality. I have also made my magazine this price because my target audience is 14 24 so majority of my target audience are in some form of education and live with parents/carers so majority of the audiences income they would have would be from allowances, part-time jobs, student loans, etc. so I have made my magazine affordable. I also have made my magazine slightly less formal than other magazines because I feel my target audience would be driven away by an overuse of formal language. My audience would also be mainly male as the market research showed demographics for rap magazines were majority males for this particular genre. The colour scheme is a dark colour scheme as my target audience will be mostly males; the darker colour scheme gives of signals that it is based at males and not a light colour scheme which would be representative of both genders. My audience would consist of U.K grime and rap enthusiasts as this market is getting bigger and gaining popularity with more rap and grime coming out of the U.K with a British edge to it rather than American. Although I am aiming at a niche audience, grime has been rising rapidly throughout U.K and audience is only getting bigger and bigger, so my magazine could start off being aimed at niche audiences and then as grimes popularity escalates my magazine could be seen covering one of the U.Ks biggest, most popular genres; grime. My target audience could be extended to people who have a passion for

U.K independent music, seeing as most grime artists are independent artists not signed to any labels and grime is only based in the U.K, it is seen as raw.
