I would like to know the history of how my last name made it to America? c. I would like to know which countries I can trace my ancestry back to. Daily Writings 1/15/14 I cannot think of a specific ethnic meal of part of a meal that I can trace to my family. The only thing I can think of to relate this would be my grandma always preparing canned vegetables and have them last forever. I can only trace that back to the fact that my family has farmed a lot in the past and that was one method of preservation, but I cant really trace specific vegetables to other countries. Daily Writings 1/22/14 For me personally the most unconventional home I have had is here at hawthorn. No offence to anyone here but some of the people are just unconventional and weird. As for my family, home would be here in America. The Fisher Family would call America home. Sure we may have emigrated from Germany but we have been in America since the 1700s. The president Daily Writings 2/3/14 I did not watch a whole lot of the Super Bowl this year. However, I did see one of the commercials that made me laugh and it was the turbo tax commercial. It started out talking about how this was the biggest game of the year and how important this game was. Then it mentioned the fact that your team may not be playing in this game. It then related you cheering for a game that did not involve you team Obama Native Americans

as being similar to cheering on your high school date as they went to prom with another person. Then it finally mentioned that instead of cheering your date on for going to prom with someone else you could be doing your taxes with turbo tax. I personally found this commercial funny because I related it to my roommate whos team did not make it. Daily Writings 2/10/14 I have used MLA and Chicago styles a lot in the past. Honestly I dont like the differences in the writing styles but fortunately enough MLA and Chicago are close enough to relate things. As for creating my citations, I use citation templates online to format all the source information I can find. Sites like easy Bib are great for formatting information in the correct order for the citation. Sometimes the citation may need to be edited but Easy Bib usually gives a good starting point for the format. I do believe that a work cited page is needed. Although I do believe that sometimes citations can get out of control because there are so many available sources that can be traced to a work and counted as plagiarism even though it is cited to another place. Daily Writings 2/19/14 I usually paraphrase because I over research and then try to include all of the research that I have done. If I was using direct quotes I would end up making papers to long. Daily Writings 2/24/14 The quote that speaks to me the most is the first one. If you steal from one it is plagiarism; if you steal from many it is research. This is due to the fact that it is almost impossible to create a fully original work without there being similarities to older works. Therefore to avoid all possible penalties, it is best to source several people in a work and give credit where credit is due. Daily Writings 2/26/14 Last semester in English 1101 I had to Explore through researching about a topic that pertained to UNC Charlotte. The topic I choose to explore was the Duke building on the research side of UNC Charlotte. It was a good chance for me to find out more about a building that I will be spending the majority of my time in while in college. I also got to use this as a chance to explore other peoples opinions about the building. Daily Writings 3/17/14 Error free work, at least in my opinion, doesnt exist. Errors always occur to some degree, although with English there should be less. The reason I believe some English errors exist is the fact that what is correct is determined by the reader and writers have a different view of the correct. However there should be a low margin of error. Two people can argue about the best wording of a sentence but it is obvious when a word is misspelled.

Daily Writings 3/19/14 Extra motivation isnt really needed for activities that you want t do. The fact that you want to do it and it is enjoyable is enough motivation. The real need for motivation is for the things you dont want to do. More importantly the more you dont want to do a certain task the more the motivation needs to be. My best form of motivation is for me to think about how this will benefits my future that motivates me. I think about if I complete this task even though I hate it, I will have a better future because of it. Daily Writings 3/24/14 2. Do we still have to submit files on scribe first? 4. Hudson had no real issues to address so we looked into my question. Daily Writings 3/31/14 I am a procrastinator by habit and I feel that it is not a good trait. It is a hard trait to break though. I procrastinate on just about anything I do. I relate most to the final quote by Don Marquis where my procrastination of one task is brought because of my work on other projects. It is not a great way to work however keeping priorities straight is important. Daily Writings 4/2/14 Looking for facts I first go to encyclopedias and dictionaries online. These usual make for a good staring place, but if these fail I will Google search the topic and see if I can find what I need there. In order to make sure my source is creditable I usually look for a professional in the source, a creditable print source, or double check the source with other sources to see if the all are consistent. There are no sources I would never use but there are some that I will avoid whenever possible. A recently edited Wikipedia article is one of those sources I would avoid. This is mainly because anyone can edit one of those Wikipedia articles. Daily Writings 4/7/14 If we focus on the obvious in our project we will only research what is commonly known by everyone. By researching the obvious that everyone knows, the project will be stale and un-informative. An obvious thing about our topic is the fact that each of the activities involves breathing under the water. Daily Writings 4/9/14 Positive experiences that I have had with presentations would include last semester when my final presentation for English 1101 and the presentation flowed so well. It flowed so well because there was so much effort and work put into the project. A not so positive experience with a presentation came from last semester in engineering we had small presentation that were not graded at the beginning of the year. During the presentation my group of four was given a Radom section to present on for five

minutes and throughout the presentation my group crashed and burned to the point that I could not recover any of it, I was the last in the group. Fortunately the presentation was not for a grade. Daily Writings 4/14/14 The quote relate to the most for success would be if you really want to do something you will find a way. If you dont, you will find an excuse. I really liked the first half of this quote because I t do believe that if you want something enough you will find a way. This has applied with me getting my first job a Great Wolf Lodge where had to apply 3 time before I got the job. The second part of this which is less positive also tends to be true although I try to not be in that situation. Daily Writings 4/16/14 The first draft of anything is shit that is how I work through English assignments that are lengthy the first work is always just a collection of crappy work. Then after a few revisions the assignment begins to look pretty could. This also work with the actual research because whenever you begin researching it starts with a mountain of useless crap that has to e sifted through for the useful bits.
