If you desire to become an Officer with the Morgantown Police Department you should prepare NOW! Candidates for the Position of Police Officer Must: Be at least 18 years of age but not older than 40 years of age Must have a valid drivers license Must be able to pass a Physical Agility Test o 27 push ups within one minute o 29 sit-ups within one minute o Complete 1.5 mile run within 14 minutes, 52 seconds o A sit and reach of 16 1/2 inches Must be able to pass a written Civil Service Exam Sit for oral interview by the Civil Service Commission

Successful Candidates will then be placed on the Civil Service Hiring List where they will undergo: Background investigation, which includes fingerprinting Driver record check Criminal history check Employment history Neighborhood check Polygraph examination Psychological screening Medical exams, which include a hearing and vision screening. Upon appointment to a position of Police Officer, Candidates will be required to attend the West Virginia State Police Academy and complete recruit training which lasts approximately 17 weeks. Patrol Officer works under the direct supervision of Patrol Supervisors under the general direction of the Police Captain and Chief of Police. The patrol officer participates in law enforcement efforts that include police patrol duties, crime prevention and investigation, emergency response, public assistance, protection of life and property. Essential Functions include but are not limited to: Detect and respond to law violations and hazards to public safety. Maintain high visibility and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Prepare crime reports and various form. Complete follow up investigations by interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects. Testify in legal proceedings. Assist in the resolution of both civil and criminal disturbances. Maintain positive community relations through communication and interaction with citizens, businesses and members of the community. Work within department guidelines by being thoroughly familiar with policies, procedures, general orders, performance standards, ordinances and laws. Perform traffic law enforcement by enforcing laws governing the operation of motor vehicles. Assist disabled or stranded motorists. Investigate motor vehicle crashes and take appropriate enforcement action. Enforce parking regulations. Enforce other law or ordinances as directed.

POLICE OFFICER

The PCSC will administer exams for future vacancies on the Morgantown Police Department. REQUIREMENTS: Be at least 18 years old and not more than 40 years of age at time of application. Have a high school diploma or GED. Be a citizen of the U.S. Pay a $25.00 application fee. Establish and maintain a permanent residence within a 15 nautical mile radius of 300 Spruce Street, Morgantown, WV. Successfully complete and pass various mandatory examinations. Veterans: preference points will be awarded per WV Code 6-13-1. Application may be obtained at the Finance Department, 389 Spruce Street, Morgantown, WV 26505, for exam on Saturday, August 2, 2014. Completed Applications must be post marked & returned to City Clerk's Office, 389 Spruce Street, Morgantown, WV 26505 by 5pm on Thursday, July 3, 2014. The City of Morgantown is the County seat of Monongalia County located along the Monongahela River and close to the Pennsylvania border in the north central part of West Virginia.
