THESE are the images of what the new Oxford Parkway station will look like. It is the first new station to be built in the county since 1935 and will be built at the site of a former World War Two grain silo and includes an 800-space carpark and 100 cycle spaces. It is part of the Chiltern Railways 130m Evergreen Three project, to create a new rail link between Oxford and London Marylebone via Kidlington, Bicester, High Wycombe. The line from Bicester to Oxford Parkway is due to open next summer, and the section between Oxford Parkway and Oxford Station will open the following year in 2016. Rob Brighouse, managing director at Chiltern Railways, said: Oxford Parkway will transform travel between Oxford and London when it launches in summer 2015. Our new station and service will provide significant economic, social and environmental benefits for people in Oxfordshire.

The Bicester/Oxford line closed in February. The first new rail tracks were laid earlier this month. The Chiltern Railways project is part of a larger 290m scheme to reopen the East-West rail link from Reading to Bedford, via Oxford, Bicester Town and Milton Keynes. Last November the former grain silo that had dominated the skyline from the A34 and the Oxford-Kidlington Road for decades was demolished to make way for the brand new station. Chiltern Railways will also rebuild Bicester and Islip stations.

Not sure an "artist's impression" is technically a "picture", but I guess accuracy doesn't usually trouble the OM!

Goodness me, what a dull design! Awasted opportunity to make an impressive visual statement.

Lets hope that Oxford Central has a more impressive visual statement when it is redeveloped. But, as a traveller, I find the most impressive statement on arrival at a station to be the words "on time".

Looks like a station to me. This project should really help relieve congestion and I hope commuters use it over Oxford Station. Incredible that it is the county's first new station since 1935. Have we really gone that long without investment in railway stations?

Looks fine for a Parkway station, not exactly the place I would expect to see a grand architectural statement. Would say it is 20 years late though and we equally need an Oxford South Parkway station near Redbridge recycling.

What is the tall building to the right of the station building, behind the tree? It looks very much like the grain silo that has now been demolished.

No. That is one of the stair / lift towers for the new bridge over the tracks. Look out of the windows in the 3rd picture.

This doesn't look like any station I recognise. Where is the jam of cars dropping off passengers at the bus stops instead of the short stay car park? Where are the numerous coffee and croissant bars blocking the entrance and obscuring the view of the departure board? Where is the long queue of people juggling suitcases, children, dogs, cups of coffee etc, being made to fish out tickets for the barrier?

Too right - for about a year this will be a terminal station, unloading a least a fourcar train's worth of people at a time. Have the barriers, platforms, footbridges and circulation spaces been designed with this demand in mind?

This building looks about as bad as the Redbridge Park and Ride monstrosity. Let's hope they at least manage to clean the toilets in this one.
