Each Friday students are pre-tested on upcoming spelling words. They will either be allocated the Core or Challenge list to practice the following week for homework. These words are based on phonic patterns and spelling rules. All students will also learn 5 topic-related Interest words. Supplementary words will be based on students individual needs. A few students will focus purely on the Core list. Most students will complete Core, Interest and 2 individual words. Some students will work on the Challenge, Interest and 5 individual words. For the majority of students this will total 15 words per week, however students with lower ability in spelling will have 8 words.
