Problem:
For this assignment our problem was to find out if the condition of the pavement affected the accident rate along a stretch of Highway in Pittsburgh.
Analysis Procedures:
Strategies:
For this problem ArcGIS was used to compare an accident table and a pavement assessment table with one another along a particular route in the Pittsburgh (PITT_Roads_Route) Some_Routes data layer. We used Linear Referencing tools in Arctoolbox to do this by overlaying the route events of the pavement and accidents table then creating a route event layer to show the tabular information on the map.
Methods:
Use Arctoolbox tool Overlay Route events to Intersect the accident layer and pavement layer.
Place the Some_Routes layer, Accident table, and Pavement Table into the ArcGIS Table of Contents
Use arcToolbox to create route event layers from the accident and pavement tables.
Use this layer to determine if the rating of the pavement influences the rate of accidents along a route of Pittsburgh Roads
Create a Route Event Layer from the .dbf created by the accidents and pavement events Intersection.
Results:
Below is the map creating by using the Overlay tool and the create route event layer tool. It shows that there are many accidents that occur on highways that are in poor condition.
maintenance system has improved the efficiency of their process by limiting the time lost to equipment breakdowns. Using the processes learned in this exercise we should be able to take their preventative maintenance data and their previous process records and see if they have improved their efficiency. Data Needed: To accomplish this task we will need the equipment breakdown records and from before an after starting their preventative maintenance program. We will also need a process diagram that lays out all the equipment used in manufacturing process. Analysis Procedure: We will create route event layers from the tables of information from the PM program and from the breakdowns prior to the PM implementation. We will then do an overlay of the breakdowns of each piece of equipment before and after the program was started. Next we will create a route event layer to be able to compare the amount of breakdowns that have occurred and the longevity of each before and after the start of the preventative maintenance program.
