Message to Shareholders
Dear Shareholders: At submission of the consolidated report for the fiscal year, we should point out that, continuing with the work initiated in 2006, during 2007 Edpyme Raz S.A. strengthened its position of entity oriented to financing micro and small enterprises, by reinforcing its presence at national level and improving its economic-financial performance. This aspect produced in first place, the achievement of important advances in the alignment of its principal financial indicators with the market standards, and in second place, the absorption of the accumulated loss of previous fiscal years. The loans portfolio kept growing (27.3%), reaching a balance of 169.9 millions of nuevos soles at December 31, 2007 with a concentration of more than two thirds in the sector of micro and small enterprises. Likewise, the clients portfolio increased by 7.5 thousand, totaling 28.2 thousand at the end of the year. The size of the unit loan was also reduced to a level of 5.6 thousands of nuevos soles (lower than the 6.1 thousands of nuevos soles at the end of 2006).
In terms of institutional development, Edpyme Raz strengthened its presence in provinces, which permitted its consolidation as a financial entity for micro finances at nation wide level. This is evidenced by the strong increase of the portfolio in provinces (58.8%), which was reflected in the improvement of its share in the total portfolio, from a little more than one third (35.5%) in December 2006 to levels near one half of the portfolio (44.2%) at the end of 2007. The economic-financial situation showed evident advances as consequence of the fine-tuning of the management practices. In that sense, it was possible to aim the indicators of portfolio quality, efficiency and profitability in the trend of the standards of the system of Edpymes. It was also possible to absorb the accumulated losses from previous fiscal years. Accordingly, the ratios of portfolio quality, like arrears and coverage of overdue portfolio, were situated at levels of 5.1% and 115.3% respectively, percentages near the 3.5% and 131.4% corresponding to the system of Edpymes. Likewise, the indicators of efficiency and profitability for assets management (ROA), reached levels near the average of the system of Edpymes, 51.8% versus 46.1% in the first case and 3.0% versus 3.5% in the second case. On other side, thanks to the commitment of our shareholders to strengthen equity and to greater capacity for generation of profits, it was possible to absorb the accumulated loss of 12.4 millions of nuevos soles of previous fiscal years, through the compensation against statutory reserves (0.1 millions of nuevos soles), the profit of year 2006 (0.4 millions of nuevos soles), the capital stock (6.6 millions of nuevos soles) and part of the profits of year 2007 (5.3 millions of nuevos soles). As far as credit management goes, the growth strategy was concentrated in the penetration to markets adjacent to the zones of influence of the network 7

Coyuntura Econmica
Economic Situation
The Peruvian economy experienced an expansion of 8.9% in 2007, according to figures published by the National Institute of Statistics and Information Technology, which is higher than the 7.5% of 2006, consolidating a 4 year period of expansion above 5.0%. This remarkable growth was motivated mainly by a significant evolution in the sectors of construction (16.5%), manufacture (10.6%), commerce (10.5%) and services (9.3%). It should be mentioned that the dynamics of the internal demand was the main driving force for the growth of the Peruvian economy, based on two factors, the first being the private investment, which increased by nearly 25.5%, with special emphasis in the activities oriented towards the internal market, and the second being the increase in the area of household consumption, above 7.4%, supported by the formal employment generation (about 8.3%) and the credit expansion (31.3%). This way, both mentioned factors contributed to the internal dynamics. In the matter of inflation, the consumer price index increased by 3.9% in 2007, above the interval for inflation targeting (1.0% - 3.0%) and above the
register in 2006 (1.1%). Among the reasons for this result, we can mention the impact of the increase of international prices of food and fuel, which was transferred to the consumers shopping basket as well as to production cost and raw materials cost of manufacturing companies. Another reason for this result was the higher inflationary expectations. The nominal exchange rate at the closure of 2007 was 2.996 nuevos soles, which indicates an appreciation of 6.3% of the Peruvian currency against the US dollar at closure of 2006 (3.196 nuevos soles). This was due to a higher dollars offer in front of the surplus of the current account, as well as to the fragile position of the dollar in the international market. During 2007, the General Index of the Stock Exchange of Lima (IGBVL for its initials in Spanish) increased from 12,884 to 17,525 points, accumulating an annual profit of 37% and getting consolidated as the second most profitable of the region. In spite of the fact that by midyear of 2007 it reached an accumulated profitability of 63.9%, a number of declining days took place in the second half of the year, explained by the unstable international scenery, with lower metal prices and a weak demand from the United States, originated by the mortgage crisis. The performance of the external sector was influenced by the favorable evolution of the prices in the international market, specially during the first semester of the year, when copper, tin and gold were quoted at prices higher than those registered at the end of 2006, and by the entrance of export products to new markets, which allowed an increase of exports of 17.5% during 2007. This situation is the reflection of the increase in international prices of metals and the increase of non-traditional exports (19.3%). In this way, in spite of the increase of imports by 31.8%, the trade balance registered a surplus of 8,356 million US dollars (7.7% of the GDP), slightly lower than the 8,934 million of 2006, which contributed to generate a positive current balance of 1.4% of the GDP.
11
The Net International Reserves increased by 60.3% (US$ 10,414 million) during 2007, reaching a position of US$ 27,689 million, equivalent to 15 months of imports. This increment is explained by the increased entrance of foreign currency from the external sector, which originated the intervention of the Central Reserve Bank of Per in the exchange market with net acquisitions of US$ 10,306 million. Another matter of influence was the increase in deposits of the financial system in BCRP, totaling US$ 1,154 million at the end of 2007. The fiscal sector was favored by the reduction of the Non Financial Expenses of the General Government when going from 16.2% to 15.7% of the GDP, permitting to reach a fiscal surplus equivalent to 3.0% of the GDP, higher than the 2.1% in 2006, which is in contrast to the deficit of 1.0% agreed with the International Monetary Fund. Accordingly, the current revenues came to represent 17.9% of the GDP, a percentage higher than the 17.3% of 2006, standing out the increase in tax revenues from 14.9% of GDP in 2006 to 15.4% of GDP in 2007. These results are the consequence of greater dynamics of the economic activity, the results obtained with the system of withholdings, perceptions and detractions that permit to extend the tributary base, and the strengthening of activities of controlling and collection by the National Superintendence of Tax Management SUNAT (tributary pressure).

If in the future, the circumstances on which the estimates and assumption were based are different, the corresponding balances of the financial statements will be modified at the date when those estimates and assumptions take place. The most significant estimates related to the accompanying financial statements refer to provision for doubtful loans, provision for depreciation of adjudicated property, and useful life and recoverable value of fixed assets.

(e) Loans portfolio and provision for credits of doubtful collection. The balances of credits are presented at their nominal value, net of the corresponding provision for credits of doubtful collection. The provision for credits of doubtful collection is based on estimates made periodically by the Management. Clients to be sued and clients under difficult economic-financial situation are considered during the review and analysis of commercial credits. If as consequence of those reviews the existence of recovery risk is determined, a provision for credits of doubtful collection is opened according to the classification assigned and the percentage established by the Banking, Insurance and AFP Regulator. In the case of consumer credits and microbusiness credits, the provision for credits of doubtful collection is determined according to the arriers observed during the collection, applying the provision percentages by category established by the Banking, Insurance and AFP Regulator. The write-off of credits qualified as loss is made after all possible means of collection have been exhausted and when real and verifiable evidences of uncollectibility exist.

Overdue commercial loans correspond to credits not paid off within the 15 days after the agreed maturity date. In case of consumer, microbusiness and mortgage loans, overdue loans include installments not paid off within 30 to 90 days after the maturity date, and the total loan in cases of overdue longer than 90 days, whereas in case of microbusiness the total loan will be considered overdue after 30 calendar days.
(f) Adjudicated property Including movable property and real estate adjudicated by execution of guarantees for the grant of credits, registered at their adjudication cost, market value or unpaid balance of the debt, whichever is lowest, net of a provision. Those properties are not depreciated. According to the norms of the Banking and Insurance Regulator, Edpyme has to constitute the following provisions: i) 20% of the value at the date of adjudication or recovery for all property received, as long as the provision determined by the appraisal value is not larger. ii) For property different to real estate, the remaining balance is provisioned on the term of 18 months. iii) Additionally, for real estate, a monthly provision for devaluation from the 18th month after adjudication or recovery, which should be constituted on a maximum term of 42 months, as long as the appraisal value determined yearly is not larger than the net value of the provision.
(g) Real estate, fixtures and fittings Real estate, fixtures and fittings are presented at cost of acquisition minus the accumulated depreciation. The depreciation of fixed assets is calculated by the straight line method on the base of their estimated useful life and with the annual rates indicated in Note 9. The maintenance and minor repairs are recognized as expenses as they occur. The useful life and the depreciation method are periodically reviewed to ensure that the method and depreciation period are consistent with the pattern of future economic benefits foreseen. The subsequent expenditures and important updating that may change the conditions of the good; resulting in future economic

benefits, above the normal performance evaluation originally made, are capitalized. When selling or removing real estate, fixtures and fittings, Edpyme eliminates the corresponding cost and accumulated depreciation. Any loss or profit resulting from their disposition is included in the profit and loss account.
(h) Intangibles and accumulated amortization. Intangibles are accounted for at initial cost minus their accumulated amortization. An asset is recognized as intangible if it is considered likely that the future economic benefits that may generate flow to Edpyme, and its cost can be reliably measured. After the initial recognition, intangibles are measured at their cost minus the accumulated amortization. Intangibles are amortized by the straight line method based on the estimated useful life. The period and method of amortization are reviewed at the end of each year. (i) Assets devaluation The value of adjudicated property, real estate, fixtures, fittings and intangibles is periodically reviewed to determine the existence of deterioration, when circumstances that may originate that the carrying value might not be recovered are produced. In case of signs of deterioration, Edpyme estimates the recoverable amount of the assets and recognizes a devaluation loss in the profit and loss account. The recoverable value of an asset is the largest between the net sale price and the use value. The net sale price is the market value of the asset minus the expenses resulting from its disposal, and the use value is the present value of the estimated future cash flow resulting of the continuous use of the asset, as well as of the disposal at the end of its useful life. The recoverable amounts are estimated for each asset or, if not possible, for the lowest cash generating unit identified. If there is a decrease in the loss for devaluation determined in previous years, an income is registered in the profit and loss account.
64
(j) Social benefits The provision for social benefits, included in the item accounts payable, is charged to results as accrued, for the amount that would have to be paid if the personnel retires on the date of the balance sheet.
(k) Workers profit share and income tax The workers profit share and deferred income tax are calculated by the balance sheet liability method consisting in the determination of the temporary differences between the amount attributed to assets or liabilities for financial or tax purposes, and apply the profit share percentage and the income tax rate to those differences.

payable and capital values, as well as instruments derived as financial options. The fair value is the amount for which an asset could be exchanged or a liability could be agreed between well-advised parts in an ordinary transaction, considering the supposition that the entity is a business in progress. When a financial instrument is traded in an active and liquid market, its actual market price provides the best evidence of its respective fair value. When market prices are not available, or may not be indicative of the fair value of the financial instrument, it is possible to use to determine such fair value, the current market value of similar financial instruments, the discounted cash flow analysis or other applicable techniques. However, any change on the market prices or in the methodology of estimation used may have a significant impact on the fair value of the financial instruments. Even though management has used its best judgment in estimating the fair value of their financial instruments, the fair value may not be indicative of their net realizable or liquidation value.
A significant portion of the assets and liabilities of Edpyme correspond to long-term financial instruments. It is considered that the fair value of such financial instruments, except of those which have quotation value, are equivalent to their corresponding carrying value at the end of the fiscal year. The method of supposition used depends on the terms and risk characteristics of the different financial instruments, as detailed below: a) The available funds consist of cash or cash equivalents and short term deposits that do not represent significant credit risks. b) The market values of the loans portfolio are similar to the carrying values, since its value, net of the corresponding provision for doubtful collection credits, corresponds substantially to the present value of those credits. c) The short and long term borrowings and financial obligations generate interest at variable rates and preferential rates, assuming that the carrying

Liquidity risk: Edpyme controls its liquidity through the matching of maturity of assets and liabilities. Interest rate risk: Edpyme is not significantly exposed to interest rate risk since assets and liabilities are mainly agreed at fix interest rates. Currency risk: Most of assets and liabilities are nominated in US dollars. According to mentioned in Note 4, assets in foreign currency exceed liabilities by US$ 1,563,637 (liabilities exceeded assets by US$ 1,682,582 at December 31, 2006). Credit risk: Credit risk is controlled through evaluation and analysis of individual transactions, for which purpose several aspects are considered, like limits of credit concentration, expected losses in the portfolio, preferred guarantee and the request of work capital according to risks.
