West Lynchburg Baptist Church

The church with heart in the heart of the city.

Just Around The Corner...

Flowering the Cross This past Easter Sunday, a new tradition was begun at West Lynchburg Baptist called Flowering the Cross. As you can see in this picture, it was simply a beautiful experience for all and we even received phone calls from those who dont attend church here, about how they enjoyed the beauty of it as they drove by the church that day.

Sometimes a church will try to interject a new tradition here or there and it is rejected before it is even tried or members just dont hold much value in truly being a part of it, and it just doesnt end up going well. Well, that didnt happen here. This new tradition was decided upon just a couple weeks before Easter and look at the resulting beauty of open hearts wanting to glorify God. If you were unable to participate in this memorable experience this year, then hopefully you can plan to be a part of it next Easter. Truly, as the beauty of the flowers reflects the beauty of Christs sacrifice and victory, it also reflects the beauty of a church body earnest to please God.

The Week at a Glance

You will not stroll into Christlikeness with your hands in your pockets, shoving the door open with a careless shoulder. This is no hobby for ones leisure moments, taken up at intervals when we have nothing much to do, and put down and forgotten when our life grows full and interesting. It takes all ones strength, and all ones heart, and all ones mind, and all ones soul, given freely and recklessly and without restraint. A.J. Gossip

After Judas took his own life, the remaining apostles decided someone should take his place. Two men were suggested as possibilities: Justus and Matthias. The disciples placed two stones in a small box, one representing each man. Someone, probably Peter, shook the box until one stone popped out. Which person became one of the Twelve?

A. Matthias or B. Justus See Acts 1:15-26)

(This story has been in here before, but it is worth reading again.) Mistaken Identity Two cars waited at a stoplight. When the light turned green, the first driver didnt notice. The woman behind him pounded her steering wheel and yelled. When the light turned yellow, she honked, made an obscene gesture and cursed. Hearing the commotion, the man looked up and accelerated through the intersection just as the light turned red. The woman ranted at missing her chance to get through. Suddenly, she heard a tap on her window and looked up to see a policeman. He told her to get out and place her hands on her car. The bewildered woman was hustled into the patrol car, booked at the station and placed in a cell. Eventually, the original officer returned and apologized for the mistake. I noticed your behavior, he said. Then I saw the Follow Me to Sunday School bumper sticker and the Christian fish emblem. Naturally, I assumed the car was stolen.

Pray for the people of South Asia.
