To find out what students know about recycling and saving the planet, I will go over some Concept Words. By introducing/ reviewing these words with students. This activity will spark a conversation amongst the class about past experiences with specific items as they relate to recycling and saving the planet. Students will be introduced to different types of recycling bags. Students will be informed that the bags are separated by different characteristics, only certain items go into specific bags. Students will then watch a video that pertains to recycling and sorting items. Students will be informed that they we will sorting recyclable items. I will pick an item out of our recycle items bag and ask students what items go in which bag. I will place the item in the wrong bag to see if students can tell me why my item does not go in a specific bag. Why is it important to recycle? What items can be recycled? How can we help save our planet? Can we recycle a banana? Can we recycle an empty bottle? Each student will have to opportunity to pick an item out of the recycle items bag. The students must identify their items and what recycle bag they go in to. To conclude the lesson I will ask students what they can do to save their planet. I will also have students to give reflections of the activities completed throughout the day. Students will complete a worksheet. PART III: REFLECTION

One strength of the lesson was that all of the students were engaged in most parts of the lessons and anticipated the opportunity to be selected to make comments throughout the lesson about recycling and saving the Earth. One weakness of the less was the amount of time that students had to sit in one spot. Students needed the opportunity to move or change the environment during the lesson. Possibly the idea of taking an observation trip outside to view the recycling bins placed outside of the school. I will add more physical movement to my lesson. It takes time to create transitions from sitting quietly to becoming active then sitting back down quietly but it is well needed for students.
