FACULTAD DE LENGUAS BUAP

INTRODUCTION The chapter number five of a thesis is one of the shortest and easiest chapters to carry out; however, it is still important. In this chapter they are developed the opinions and points of view of the researcher about his work. Furthermore, to know what the characteristics of this chapter are, it was realized a focus group among three participants who answered to five questions. Below they are shown the findings sustained by expert authors in doing thesis. METHOD This section describes the participants, the instrument and the analysis method used. The site of the research was a research seminar course. The participants were three students from LEMO. A short questionnaire was designed to collect the data needed to answer the research questions. This instrument consisted of five questions: 1. What are conclusions? 2. What are their purposes? 3. Where you can find them in a B.A. thesis? 4. What information it is include in them? 5. Why are they important? The results of the analysis are presented in the following section.

RESULTS This section presents the results of the topic called conclusions. The results are presented in the same order as the questionnaire (described above). Participants expressed their opinions about each question, these opinion are shown below. 1. - What are conclusions?

According to Criollo (2003, p.239) in the fifth chapter of the thesis you summarize your study and draw some conclusions about it. Sabino (n. d.) argues about conclusions Synthesize is rebuild what has separate analysis, conclusions and integrate all partial analyzes into a coherent whole that makes sense full. In this sense, the answers of the three participants were quite similar to the previous quotes: P2. Is the summary of everything, what you get of analyzing all the research aspects. P3. I think is the end of the research, you find an answer for your questions. P1. In this chapter are shown the answers for all our questions. I think is the end of the thesis. 2. - What are their purposes? In this question, two participants expressed their beliefs about the purposes of the thesis and both agreed that the opinion of the author is mainly, what answers this question:

P3. The purpose is to show the authors perspective about what he or she found doing the thesis. P1. Are to briefly describe the opinion of the author according to the analysis and results of the instruments. Sabino (n. d.) thinks that conclusions may or may not confirm the hypothesis presented in the theoretical framework and integrate all the information that in the data analysis chapter was analyzed.

3. - Where can you find them in the B. A. thesis? According to Criollo (2003) the conclusions are found in the fifth chapter of a thesis; in the same way we agreed that they are located in the fifth chapter of a thesis project. We can see this in the answers of all the participants. P2. In the fifth chapter. P3. In the last chapter. P1. I think are in the chapter number five.

4. - What information is included in them? According to Assan (n. d.) in the conclusions we can find implications resulting from your discussion of the topic, as well as recommendations, forecasting future trends, and the need for further research. In the same way we agreed that in this chapter we find opinions or implications from the discussion of the topic it can be seen in the answer of the participant 2:

P2. - Well, in this chapter you can find the authors opinion about his work.

3. Why is it important? According the focus group, the three participants had essentially the same answer; the data analysis chapter is important because the results and answers of the research questions are shown. In this sense, the three participants agreed with Bitchener (2010), who argues that this chapter is important because involves the presentation of the findings of the study having as a main focus the research questions or hypothesis. There was extra information from the participant two who said: P2: You show your results and maybe you contribute to some theory or maybe giving new information about some phenomenon. Obviously this asseveration is a little bit risky but it is been proved that some theses help students to follow certain ways or tips to start developing their own research projects. 4. - What information is included in them? Criollo (2003) says that conclusions must include at least, four paragraphs concerned with the following information: Summary, implications, limitations of the study and directions for further research. It is clear that the three participants were far of the opinion of the author and it is clear too that the answers were very general:

P2. Well, in this chapter you can find the authors opinion about his work and the end of the thesis project. P3. I think we can find a little summary of what happened during the process of making the thesis. P1. Maybe closing the project, like saying that everything was good and it was a big surprise to find out a different thing that was planned, I guess. 5. - Why are they important? Sabino (n. d.) argues conclusions are very important in a thesis because they should be raised to a high safety margin, which is recommended by the terms affirmative. A question about a particular aspect of the investigation must be expressly stated and this should not affect the fundamental structure of the findings. The three participants have similarities in their answers because it is clear that if one part is missing, the all is not going to work, it will become meaningless. Here the answers: P2. Well, I think conclusions are important to summarize the reactions and results of the thesis; this chapter covers almost all the others of the thesis. P3. Is important because you are given the reader a complete idea of what the thesis was and you are saying if you get the expected results or everything was different according to the answers acquired.

P1. I think is important because you are finishing the thesis and this is the last step of all the research made.

CONCLUSION Concluding these findings, the three participants have the main idea of what conclusions are, this because according to the authors which reinforced the answers of the students making this report reliable but more than that, having a clear idea of the information that must be part of the fourth chapter of the thesis.
