MESSAGE FROM MRS. KENNAUGH

Next Friday, May 2, Beagle Elementary students and staff will be participating in the 3rd annual Stand4Change Day with all of the other schools in our district. This is a nationwide effort that Beagle students and staff have participated in each year and involves discussion about bullying and all those who are present standing together to take the following pledge: I will not allow social labels to define others or myself. I will take a stand against bullying in my school. Starting today, I will stand up and defeat the label. Please take a minute to talk to your child(ren) about how important it is to work toward this important goal and how just one person really can make a difference You can check out www.deafeatthelabel.com for further information about this program. I want to remind everyone of appropriate school clothing. Generally, inappropriate clothing is that which may draw unnecessary attention to what the child is wearing it distracts others. These guidelines become more important for the older, mature students whose bodies are developing (See GLPS Elementary Student Handbook on GLPS website.) Specific clothing that falls into the inappropriatefor-school category includes short shorts, tops that reveal a bare midriff or shoulder, tops that have spaghetti straps, or large, over-sized tank tops. The common sense guideline is that if the child has some doubt about whether some article of clothing falls into this category, s/he should not wear it. With continued parental monitoring and support, I believe this will continue to essentially be a non-issue. If violations arise, however, the offending student will be asked to make the necessary adjustments. And as always, if you have any questions or would like to discuss any concerns, please contact me. SCHOOLS OF CHOICE If you currently have a Schools of Choice student, you must notify the District either by email to D'Anne Golub at golubd@glcomets.net, or a letter to Grand Ledge Public Schools, c/o D'Anne Golub, 220 Lamson Street, Grand Ledge, MI 48837 no later than May 31, 2014 indicating that you would like your student(s) to continue as a schools of choice student for the 2014-2015 school year.
