RECONSTRUCTION THROUGH DECONSTRUCTION (OOMPH ACTIVITY) I.

Materials: Illustration board/Chipboard Masking tape/Transparent adhesive tape Cutter Ruler Pencil Superglue and/or any glue II. Preparations: A set of illustration boards/chipboards will be cut into smaller triangular pieces to be used by the campers as sides of the mini square pyramids they will be making in this activity. Another set of illustration boards/chipboards will be cut into smaller square-shaped pieces to be used by the campers as the base of the mini square pyramids they will be making in this activity. (Dimensions of the smaller pieces are still under experimentation.) III. Procedures: Part 1: Pyramid making a. The campers will be provided of the materials needed for this activity, namely: a set containing both the small triangular pieces and small square-shaped pieces together and a roll of masking tape/transparent adhesive tape. (The campers will be given the same number and ratio of the small shaped pieces.) b. The campers will then use those small shaped pieces to form a mini square pyramid like the picture shown below.

c. The campers will use the roll of masking tape/adhesive tape provided to them to hold the pieces altogether. d. The campers will then continue on making those mini square pyramids until every last piece of the small shaped pieces will be used. e. After making every last piece of the mini square pyramids, the campers will then line up 4 set of mini square pyramids in a straight line which will serve as the sides of the first layer of the larger square pyramid the campers are going to make.

(Each side should have the same number of mini square pyramids.) f. The campers will then also line up mini small pyramids to fill the space inside the boundary of the line of mini square pyramids they have made. g. The campers will use the same roll of masking tape/adhesive tape to tape the bases of each mini square pyramids together to produce one layer of the larger square pyramid. h. The campers will repeat procedure letter e. to g. to produce the other layers for the larger square pyramid. (Every layer produced must have an area one square pyramid lesser in its sides compared to the layer produced before it. e.g. 5x5, 4x4, 3x3, 2x2, 1)

i. When all layers are done, the campers will just then place the layers on top of each other from the largest layer up to the layer where there only exists one mini square pyramid. Part 2: Cube making

a. The campers will be asked to get the pyramid structure they have made and dismount it layer by layer. b. The campers will then destroy each layer of the larger square pyramid they have made by separating each mini square pyramids from each other. (Basically, they are just going to cut the masking tape/adhesive tape that binds the bases of the mini square pyramids together.) c. After separating all the mini square pyramids from each other, the campers will then make mini cubes by combining 6 mini square pyramids like the picture shown below.

d. The campers will use the same roll of masking tape/adhesive tape to tape the sides of the mini cube they have made. e. The campers will continue on making these mini cubes until all mini square pyramids are used.

f. After making every last piece of the mini cubes, the campers will then combine all the mini cubes to form a larger cube. g. The campers will use super glue/glue, which are provided to them, to glue the mini cubes from each other. This way it makes the larger cube more stable for its next purpose later in the camp. NOTES: *Explanation: Since the theme is about redefining love, this activity will be used as an analogy to explain or to clarify what we mean by redefining love, by breaking love's foundation. The larger square pyramid symbolizes the current definition of the norms to the concept of love as it evolved throughout the generations. Its layers symbolizes that as time passed by, new definitions of the concept love are added thus contributing to the norms understanding of what love is based on our generation. The instability of the layers due to the fact that it is only held together by adhesive tapes/masking tapes symbolizes how vague, ambiguous, unstable is our current understanding to the concept of love. In order to have better understanding of the concept love, we must start from the bottom. We must go back to the basic block of its foundation. That is why the campers are asked to dismount the square pyramid and use the pieces to produces a larger cube, a simple object. We are breaking love's foundation and we are going to start rebuilding it piece by piece, block by block, starting from its basic block which is symbolized by the cube itself. The glue/super glue used to stick the mini cubes together to form the larger cube symbolizes that if we start from the beginning if we start from basic, we could have a firmer, stronger foundation which would lead us to a clearer understanding of love's real meaning. *Items with / (e.g. illustration board/chipboard) means that we are not yet sure which one to use due to the fact that we still don't know which material would be cheaper yet more effective to use. But rest assured, we will be having a canvass about these materials and reach a decision based on the said criteria: cheaper and more effective. *The dimensions of the pieces to be used are still being calibrated. Kuya Ron is helping with this plan and he knows how to make those mini square pyramids. ES 11 skills stuff. Rest assured, the structures are really possible to make. There will be a sample to be made for reference purposes. It is also the reason why we need to prepare the pieces because it needs accurate measurement and it would take a lot of time if the campers would be the one to make the measurements and the cutting. *If the cubes created are insufficient to be made into a cross to be used after Talk 5 due to the fact of less participants, the core and if possible the service team could help in making the other cubes to produce enough amount of large cubes to be used to form the cross.
