Friends, Please join us for a special planning meeting this Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 6:30 pm.

We will be preparing for the arrival of Elvira Arellano and Emma Lozano, please join us at 1504 E. Commerce! While they are here, we will march from CECLEF to San Antonio City Hall on Wednesday, May 7. The purpose of this event is to encourage the Mayor and City Council to pass a resolution making it a "Sanctuary City," where only immigrants with criminal acts or history should be detained or deported. The policy has been adopted by numerous cities including, Houston, TX. The Cesar E Chavez Legacy and Educational foundation and the immigration movement are proud to welcome Elvira Arellano and Emma Lozano to our beautiful city. On May 7, we will host a press conference at 11:30 a.m. and at 4:30 p.m. we will march from CECLEF to City Hall where we will address Mayor Julian Castro during the Citizens to be Heard segment of the meeting. Our goal is to pressure the Obama administration to end deportations for noncriminal immigrants. Elvira Arellano, a fellow human rights activist and a Mexican citizen, has become a symbol of undocumented immigrants and aspiring Americans in

the U.S. In 2006 Arellano and her U.S. born son Saul drew national attention for living inside Adalberto United Methodist Church and refusing to leave its premises for one year. Elvira was later deported on August 20, 2007 but continued to organize in support of immigration reform and protect rights for immigrants traveling through Mexico. For her courage and dedication Time Magazine would name Arellano "Person of the Year" and she would go on to run for a seat in Mexico's congress and become an active member of the non-governmental organization "Migrant Movement of MesoAmerica." Emma Lozano is the president and founder of the immigration rights advocacy group Centro Sin Fronteras. For 26 years, Centro Sin Fronteras has been on the front lines of the immigration movement by leading the fight to end school overcrowding, provide adequate housing and access to healthcare for undocumented families, and pressuring members of congress to grant legal status for thousands of immigrant families. Lozano and her organization struggle to empower immigrant families through collective action with the goal of protecting our communities from human rights abuses. SI SE PUEDE!
