Golden Claypot Restaurant @ Chai Le

Share

Golden Claypot Restaurant at Chai Leng Park was opened about half a year ago with their specialty being dishes served in clay pots. My family tried the food before and they found it to be good, especially the frog legs. Knowing that I like frog legs, they brought me to the restaurant for a try during my last trip back home.

This is the Claypot Kung Pao Frog Legs that was highly recommended. It sure wasnt cheap with the largest portion costing at RM26 and I think there were only three to four frog legs at most. But, it was definitely worth the try because the dish was as delicious as what was described to me before. Frog legs were really fresh, in fact one of the freshest I have ever had. If you noticed, the Kung Pao Frog Legs prepared in other Chinese restaurants are usually briefly deep fried first, then stir fried with dried chillis. This shrinks the already very little meat of the frog legs and as well as giving a little crisp to the meat, causing them to lose all the tenderness. Golden Claypot omitted the deep frying process and the result was a tasty, tender frog legs dish that felt meaty on the palate. The thick and sweet soya sauce also played an important role in flavoring the dish.

Claypot Black Vinegar Pork @ RM12 for the smallest portion. There are two types of vinegar pork at Golden Claypot, where the only difference is the vinegar used either white or black vinegar. We are more familiar with the black vinegar so we chose it over the white one. Taste wise it was so so.. nothing to write home about. It was sour enough but was too watery and lacked spiciness too.

SL and I didnt have white rice but opted to share a bowl of Curry Mee instead. It was nothing like the usual curry mee sold by Penang hawkers, but more like KLs curry laksa because of its extremely thick gravy and curry chicken. RM6 for a bowl.

Finally, Golden Claypots Signature Tofu @ RM12 (medium portion) It was nice but I have had better tofu in my life.

Overall, it was a fresh, pleasant meal because of the new dish concepts. Even in KL, I have never seen any restaurants that are using claypots as a selling point. So, this restaurant could go far if they are able to perfect some of their dishes as well as lowering the prices for some too. If you are a frog legs fan, the Kung Pao Frog Legs is already a good reason why you should give Golden Claypot a try. The restaurant is located just behind The Store/Pearl View Hotel at Chai Leng Park, next to Teow Chew Meng. Its so big you cant miss it ok, lol. Golden Claypot Restaurant Sdn Bhd. P/s: should be Gong Bao instead of kung pao, same goes to Gong-Xi-Fa-Chai instead of Kong Hee Fatt Choy. vk: hehe, I know about the spelling, or han yu pin yin. But, sometimes you gotta do it purposely for other reasons like SEO. Westeners usually spell it as Kung Pao as seen in Wikipedia #5 written by Thomas about 2 years ago True, like Kung Fu .nobody knows whatGongfu is all about? But at some point in time we need to correct the wrong, so that those who dont understand Chinese will not confuse and I think we should do it now. #6 written by tuttifoodi about 2 years ago oh my god all your pictures are making me hungry please visit my blog : http://www.tuttifoodi.com #7 written by xin about 1 year ago i went to the place 2 weeks ago too food and price were both ok. too bad i didnt order the frog leg claypot xins last blog post..Golden Claypot Restaurant @ Chai Leng Park, Perai
