Beautiful Patience

When I was just a little girl

I asked my mother what will I be
Will I be pretty, will I be rich
This was what she said to me
O my daughter! O my daughter!
You will be pretty
You will be rich
And you will be much more than pretty and rich (inshaAllah)

O my Mother! What more will I want to be?

This was what she said to me
Let me tell you about a very patient lady
Who you must strive to be

She was beautiful

She was born with a silver spoon
She married a brave son of Makhzum
She loved her husband like no love you ever known
She followed him to the far away land of Habshi
Leaving their aristocrat families
To protect the religion of Allah, the Almighty

She became a mother while in Habasyah, land of the free

Mingling with people of a kind King, Najashi
But she longed for truth to prevail
and for peace to come to her beloved country
News reached Habasyah
Umar, the staunch enemy of Muslims, accepted Islam
Makkah had changed completely
Excited, her family set out for her country
Only to realize it was only a rumor
Things were worse than before
Muslims were tortured like never before

They turned back to Habasyah

But it was too late
Then to Madinah to emigrate
But her family grabbed her
His family took her small sons
They separated her from her husband and sons

Everyday with fail

She went to that spot where her family were torn away
Facing herself towards Madinah
Waiting for her husband to return
She wept and wept
She could not stop weeping

One day, one year later

Her tribesman passed by, and saw her grieving
His heart softened
To the elders of the two families, he gave his piece of mind
"What cruelty have you inflicted upon our noble and helpless lady?"
They returned her sons and permitted her to go to Madinah
So, to Madinah she set out with her sons
By foot, no camel, not even a donkey
A non-believer passed by her, amazed!
"Where are you going, O daughter of Abu Umayya?"
"I want my husband in Madinah," she said
"Is there anyone with you?" he asked
"No, no one with me except Allah and my sons," she said
"In this day nobody will leave you," said the man

The man led her to Madinah

To join her with her husband, Abu Salamah
He was Uthman bin Talhah
Who later became Muslim and great companion of Rasullullah (peace and blessings be
upon him)
She said this about him
"I never saw a companion more honorable than Uthman bin Talhah"

Her joy knew no bounds in Madinah

Her family reunited, in Islam

In the Battle of Uhud

Her husband was honored to fight
He was mortally wounded
This was very difficult for her heart to bear
She was a carrying his child
She loved him so very much
She missed him so very much
"Who is better than Abu Salamah?," she said to herself.
She made du'a day and night
O my Lord! To You we belong and to You we return
O my Lord, give me the reward that is in this test and difficulties
O my Lord, cause me to receive after this difficulty something better than this

Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (r.a.) proposed to her, she rejected

Umar Al-Khattab (r.a.) proposed to her, she rejected
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) proposed to her
But she had reservations
I am a woman of extreme jealousy
I am an elderly lady
I have many children
The Prophet, may peace and blessings be upon him, answered
I will pray to Allah, and inshaAllah, your jealousy will go away
About your children, I wished to be their guardian and raise them

Allah answered her prayers

Allah rewarded her patience
with becoming the wife of the perfect man, the pinnacle of creation
Muhammad bin Abdullah, sallallahu alayhi wassalaam
May peace and blessings be upon him, his family and his companions

made us inherit (this) land. We can dwell in Paradise where we will; how excellent a reward for the
(pious good) workers!" Qur'an Az-Zumar 73"
"And those who believe, and do righteous deeds, We shall surely lodge them in lofty chambers of
paradise, underneath which rivers flow, therein dwelling forever; and excellent is the wage of those
who labor, such men as are patient, and put their trust in their Lord." Quran Ankaboot 29:58-59
"O believers, be patient, and vie you in patience; be steadfast; fear God; haply so you will prosper."
