I am going to do a
brochure about
Indigenous Australians the
tools that they use and
make

Tools
Different tools were used for
different groups like coastal tribes
used fishbone to tip their weapons
and desert tribes used stone tips.
While different tools are made in
different ways by different groups,
all Aboriginal people used knifes,
scrapers, axe-heads, spears and tools
for eating, drinking and digging
sticks. They used stone tools for
many different things such as to
make other tools prepare food, to
chop wood and prepare animal skins.

Not all tools were used for killing

animals. Spears can be used for sport
and warfare. Some other tools can be
used for fun and games or as
interments.
Most tools were used for hunting
though. A boriginal people used lots
of different tools for different uses.
They also invented lots of different
tools.
Thank you for reading my brochure
about Tools that Aboriginal people
used.

Weapons

BOOMERANGS
Many A boriginal groups used this tool mainly for hunting but also for ceremonies. The weapon
can easily kill a small animal or knock down a larger one. Aborigines have boomerangs to suit
different purposes. Like in the desert heavy wood is used from the Mulga tree. This wood was
used to make boomerangs for hunting kangaroos but lighter boomerangs were made in the NSW
coast from the Mangrove trees. These boomerangs were used for hunting ducks. In 1914 David
Unaipon used principle of boomerang flight to anticipate the helicopter. David Unaipon is now on
Australias 50$ note.

SPEARS
Spears were used for hunting, fishing and
fighting. Tasmanian Aboriginals had very long
spears that were about 6 metres long! Many
spears were made from light wood. Spears can
be made in different ways. Some are made from
a single piece of wood while others can be made
from two pieces of wood. Spears were used to
catch animals such as kangaroos but not all
Aboriginals can do this. Some A boriginal groups
like the Adnyamathanha people who came from
the Flinders Rangers could not do this because it
was a hilly country. Adnyamathanha people set
traps instead or stalked animals.

TRAPS
Aboriginal people used traps. Different
groups used different traps like most of
the time they used spears. There are also
traps. One trap is a v shaped one that is
built around water so the animals will
come. Then 1 or 2 men will hide at the
point of the v then others will frighten the
animal in to the trap then the hidden man
will kill it with a club. That is one trap and
there are many more like stalking or
hiding.
