The goal for Blacks In Technology Los Angeles (BIT-LA) is to create a vibrant community of like-minded African American technology professionals, innovators and enthusiasts who are working with or interested in Web-based and related technologies. LA Machine Learning

This is group which gathers to discuss topics in machine learning. This could be classification, clustering, neural networks, loss functions, graphical algorithms, information retrieval, data mining, artificial intelligence, search, game theory, computational learning theory, reinforcement learning, collaborative filtering, recommendation systems, bioinformatics, or really anything having to do with large scale data analysis and prediction. The usual format is to select a topic and/or paper for members to read before the meeting to discuss. We might at a later point host several hackathons or have demos. All levels welcome from beginners to research scientists. This is intended to be a very inclusive group.

Carbon Five Hack Nights

Carbon Five hosts a bi-weekly, intimate hack night for developers who want to code and collaborate for a couple of hours after work. Bring your own project or work with someone else. Developers of all experience levels are welcome. We'll kick off with a very brief daily-style intro where everyone gives their name, says what they're working on and whether or not that want a hand... then we'll get our hack on. There will be at least a couple Carbon Five folks around to help out. Doors open around 6p and we'll keep hacking until 9 (sometimes later). Bring your laptop and a project to work on. We'll provide the infrastructure, food, and beverages.
