Discuss the type of advert that you will be creating in respect of genre.
Paragraph 1- what is genre and what is mine? Brief description Paragraph 2 key theories and appliance to my advert Paragraph 3 how have you used the genre conventions in my advert?

The word genre comes from the French word type to which is given to any form of literature or form of art to separate them into categories. Genres are formed by the different types of conventions used and how over time the conventions change and new genres are invented. Genre was first invented with the Greek Literature as different styles of writing and poetry had emerged to which the Greeks gave them a name that related to their theme of story. The genre I will be using is music as I am creating a TV Advert based on the selling of a single which will be available on iTunes. During my Advert my artist will enter the recording studio and display the work she has put in to make the single before it was produced and sold. Daniel Chandler states that conventional definitions of genre tend to be based on the notion that they constitute particular conventions of content. However Richard Dyer argued that entertainment or genre forms are pleasurable precisely because they allow a kind of fantasy escape from a reality often experienced as full of exhaustion and alienation, into a fictional world coded as abundant, energetic, transparent, intense and with moments of community. There are different genre theories used throughout media in order to help complete the task given to a director and actor. My advert consists of a protagonist who would be my actress; she is the main character in my advert. The plot within my advert would be her creating her single. I feel as though the majority of the theories like Icons, stock characters and background dont apply to my advert as it is much harder to produce a music advert using all six points given by Graeme Burton. Genre conventions are a typical item or object used within media for a specific genre. For instance, the genre of horror associates with blood, death and murder. Using conventions for my advert were both tricky yet quite simply as most TV Adverts have a solid item like a perfume or household object to sell whereas my advert is advertising a technical copy of a single. Within my advert I have used the convention of a recording studio, instruments and producing techniques to display what goes into making a single or album from an artists point of view. In conclusion, genre is hard to associate with my advert in particular as it is not the typical TV Advert you would see on a daily basis. However, I have picked the genre of music and used as many genre conventions I could to display what genre I am using.
