Daily Lesson Plan Form

Grade Level: 10th

Date: 2-6-14 Campus/District: Horn HS/Mesquite ISD Overall Goal of Lesson: Students will learn and understand special parallelograms and their properties. Instructional Objectives: Students should be able to identify special parallelograms by their distinct properties. Students should also be able to find angle measures and segment lengths using these properties. Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) & Key Vocabulary: Quadrilaterals, parallelograms, rectangle, ELPS: (typed out completely) rhombus, square, diagonal, bisect, congruent, TEKS: supplementary, parallel, perpendicular G.5 B use numeric and geometric patterns to make generalizations about geometric properties, including properties of polygons and angle relationships in polygons G.7 A use one- and two-dimensional coordinate systems to represent points, lines, rays, line segments, and figures G.7 B use slopes and equations of lines to investigate geometric relationships, including parallel lines, perpendicular lines, and special segments of polygons G.9 B formulate and test conjectures about the properties and attributes of polygons and their component parts based on explorations and concrete models ELPS: 1(A) use prior knowledge and experiences to understand meanings in English 1(C) use strategic learning techniques such as concept mapping, drawing, memorizing, comparing, contrasting, and reviewing to acquire basic and grade-level vocabulary 1(F) use accessible language and learn new and essential language in the process Higher Order Questions: What special property does a rhombus and a square share? What angle is formed by the bisecting diagonals of a square?

Student Activities: (Keep in mind the following: Scaffolding, Independent or Cooperative activities, Groupings,
Reading, Writing, Listening, Hands-On/Minds-On, Connections to previous knowledge, etc)

Students will fill out their foldables, follow along with teacher as she works problems, take notes, demonstrate understanding of material, work independently on classwork and homework, apply previous knowledge of properties of polygons Modifications/ELL Strategies: Anticipatory Activity for Lesson: Use pictures and labeling techniques; provide Supplemental aid (foldable) scaffolding Time Allotted 20 minutes Modeling: Students will model teachers methods of doing classwork; students will show knowledge of material by answering questions given by teacher Guided Practice: Students will work remaining problems on notes while the teacher observes and answers questions Independent Practice: Students will finish classwork and begin homework Lesson Closure: Exit Ticket Assessment Methods/Strategies: Homework, Quiz, participation Teacher Input/Lesson Activity: Fill out foldable; provide notes for lesson; get students started on classwork
