The Next Twenty-Five Years...
EXPECT THE MIRACULOUS
There’s just no way to know exactly what God has in store for
the next twenty-five years. He’s always full of miraculous surprises
that we could never predict. But one thing is sure…as long as we
stay faithful to the Mission that He has given our church (“to do
whatever it takes to connect people to Jesus”) we can expect Him to
enable, equip, and empower us to accomplish it. The results will be
far beyond anything we could ever imagine.
“Now to Him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think -
according to the power that works in you - to Him be glory in the church and
in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever.” Ephesians 3:20 (HCSB)

accomplish the Mission. You don’t just want to be a passenger on this train, you need to
know where we’re going, how we’re going to get there, and to be able to plug in where you’ve
been uniquely gifted.
“For the body does not consist of one member but of many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not
belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not
an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body…But as it is, God arranged the
members in the body, each one of them, as He chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is
there are many parts, yet one body.” 1 Cor 12:14-20 (ESV)
For although I am free from all people, I have made myself a slave to all, in order to win more people...I have become
all things to all people, so that I may by all means save some.” 1 Corinthians 9:19, 22 (HCSB)

Lottie Moon
More than just aChristmas Offering ...
Today’s China is a world of rapid change. It’s home to 1.3
billion individuals-one-fifth of the world’s population. Village dwellers
flock to trendy megacities with exploding populations. And China
holds its own in the world’s economy. It’s very different from the vast
farmland Lottie Moon entered in the 1800s. But one thing hasn’t
changed: China’s need for a Savior.
Lottie Moon-the namesake of the international missions offering-
has become something of a legend to us. But in her time Lottie
was anything but an untouchable hero. In fact, she was like today’s
missionaries. She was a hard-working, deep-loving Southern Baptist
who labored tirelessly so her people group could know Jesus.
Her mission
When she set sail for China, Lottie was 32 years old. She had
turned down a marriage proposal and left her job, home and family to follow God’s lead. Her path
wasn’t typical for an educated woman from a wealthy Southern family. But Lottie did not serve a
typical God. He had gripped her with the Chinese peoples’ need for a Savior.
For 39 years Lottie labored, chiefly in Tengchow and P’ingtu. People feared and rejected her,
but she refused to leave. The aroma of fresh-baked cookies drew people to her house. She adopted
traditional Chinese dress, and she learned China’s language and customs. Lottie didn’t just serve
the people of China; she identified with them. Many eventually accepted her. And some accepted
her Savior.
Her vision
Lottie’s vision wasn’t just for the people of China. It reached to her fellow Southern Baptists in
the United States. Like today’s missionaries, she wrote letters home, detailing China’s hunger for
truth and the struggle of so few missionaries sharing the gospel with so many people-472 million
Chinese in her day. She shared another timely message, too: the
urgent need for more workers and for Southern Baptists passionately
supporting them through prayer and giving.
In 1912, during a time of war and famine, Lottie silently starved,
knowing that her beloved Chinese didn’t have enough food. Her fellow
Christians saw the ultimate sign of love: giving her life for others. On
Christmas Eve, Lottie died on a ship bound for the United States.
But her legacy lives on. And today, when gifts aren’t growing as
quickly as the number of workers God is calling to the field, her call
for sacrificial giving rings with more urgency than ever.

Com m u A Message from Dr. Chad Keck
I can hardly believe that the holidays are already here! It just seems
like weeks ago that the campuses were filled with children learning
about God at one of our Vacation Bible School experiences or that I
was at our Student camp watching our students experience the power
of Christ as they studied and worshiped. But, here we are getting
ready to close another awesome year of ministry at Sarasota Baptist.
Discovery Class
A class designed for prospective members of Sarasota Baptist Church and also,
for those wanting to know more about the church. The class, taught by Pastor
Mike and additional staff members, answers the following questions:
• What is the mission of Sarasota Baptist Church?
• What does it mean to be a Southern Baptist Church?
• How does my personality help me in ministry?
• What are and how can I apply the 5 spiritual disciplines necessary for spiritual maturity?
• What kind of ministries at SBC can I be a part of?
• What is my spiritual gift and how does it fit into the ministry of SBC?
• What do we believe at Sarasota Baptist Church?
Mark your calendar for Saturday, November 21 to join us at the Lakewood Ranch Campus
from 8 am – 4 pm.
It may be one of the best investments of your time. Breakfast, lunch and all teaching materials will be provided. At
the end of the class, an opportunity will be provided to commit to church membership.
Register online at www.SarasotaBaptist.com or call Stephanie Hayes at 922-1449.

Message from Dr. Chad Keck, continued
Group Christmas parties and our Christmas Eve Services. I challenge you to bring
a different friend to each of these three. Never forget the dividends are great when
we invest in eternity.
Speaking of investing, I want to thank you for your
giving and your support of God’s work that is being done here
at Sarasota Baptist this year. Your faithfulness and cheerfulness
in the area of giving during this difficult economic year has been
amazing! Please continue this faithfulness through the holidays and
into next year. Don’t forget that we do offer online giving on
our website as a resource for you.

D-Now Weekend
“D-Now has changed something in my life,” says Brida Bamboim, 11th-grader. “It has made me realize that if I say
that I want to get to know God, I have to do something about it not just for one day, or the day after D-Now is over, but
for the rest of my life.”
D-Now Weekend pulled together 460 students from 16 local churches, including 150 SBC students and
approximately 210 adult and college leaders. The group met at Lakewood Ranch for large group sessions both Friday and
Saturday, which featured guest speaker David Nasser, and the Chris Coleman Band.
“What really impacted me the most was when David Nasser really expressed the importance of prayer and being in
God’s Word.” Said Kara Kress, also in 11th grade.
According to Rachael Callari, 9th grader, the weekend was “So awesome! The band really seemed to be here to
worship, not to perform. David Nasser is such a powerful speaker. I could feel God’s presence in this place as he spoke!”
When not together at the LRC campus, the groups were split into host homes by grade and gender during the
weekend, where they had Bible study time that mirrored the large group time topics. There was also scheduled quiet
time. “Our family host was awesome!” Remarked Brida.
If you notice some of our students wearing green and white bracelets, then you know that they have heard “A Call
to Die.” “This year we have chosen to use David Nasser’s book, A Call to Die, as a follow up to the weekend,” said PRC
Student Minister Jesse Bryan. “Through the book, the students agree to give up something for 40 days that will give them
more time to get into God’s Word.”
Students have chosen a variety of things to give up, like time spent on Facebook, texting, internet, TV, gossip, and
even college football. Says Bryan, “The goal is that the students will use this time to get into the Word and carry it beyond
the 40 days.
I have died, but Christ lives in me. And I now live by faith in
the Son of God, who loved me and gave his life for me.

In a generation that begs to be different, it is too easy to blend in. In a world that says you
must be true to yourself, it feels natural to fake your way through the day. The norm to live
in isolation and distraction from the truth has slowly evolved into apathy and numbness. In
2 Timothy 1:6 the Apostle Paul tells Timothy not to blend in but rather to stir it up! He
told him not to settle things down, but get things stirred! “Stir the gift of God that is within
you” is a command that could wake up an entire generation of students who have fallen
numb to the touch of God. What would happen if the gift of God, which has long settled
in the hearts of many in this generation, was stirred to action? We believe times such as
these call for a stirring such as this. Will you join us as we stir the gift and walk forward in
faith?

Can Y o Secret Sisters
For over ten years a group of women have met together simply to meet new friends, share food and laughs,
and uplift each other. Secretly paired, they exchange simple gifts; and the sisterhood is not revealed until months have
gone by.
According to Sandy Wilson, who has organized the group for many years, “Secret Sisters has been a way for the
women of our church to meet other women in a setting that has nothing to do with church or Bible study. It is strictly a
fun time of chatter, food, laughs and new friendships.”
Secret Sisters will begin once more in Januay, and meet monthly until May. Registration begins November 15,
and all women are invited, regardless of age.
“I enjoyed meeting the younger women the most,” said
Barbara Murphy, a Secret Sister for five years. Barbara felt that she
knew all the women in her age group through the Plus Ministry,
but wanted to meet a variety of ladies in the church. “It gives you
a chance to meet another sister,” she added.
Secret Sisters is a 5 month commitment. Each
month the sisters meet in a member’s home for food, fun,
fellowship, and a small gift exchange. There are Luncheon and
Dinner groups that meet. The Luncheon group meets from
11:30 am to 1:30 pm and the Dinner group meets from 7:00
pm to 9:00 pm. There are usually ten to fifteen women in each
009 Groups

group.
The women complete a questionaire that includes the
demographics, hobbies, favoite colors, and more. Then they are secretly paired up with a ‘sister’ who’s identity
hopefully remains a secret until the final disclosure in May.
According to Barbara, the women have prayed each other through some tragic times. Yet there is a lot of
laughter and new friendships made. The meetings are thematic, and this year they are going to venture into a new
way of sharing the fun of being a Secret Sister. Instead of buying a traditional gift each month, new, more creative
exchanges are planned. White Elephant gifts, sweet treats, recipe sharing, and a book exchange are some of the new
ideas. The last month you may opt to buy an inexpensive gift for your Secret Sister.
If you are interested in becoming a Secret Sister, please contact Sandy Wilson at 923-3959, or email to
sandywilson@comcast.net.

Finding Her Place t

Claudia Williams
Every once in a while, a dedicated person comes
along and quietly finds their niche at SBC. Their
servant’s heart is appreciated by those they assist, but
their helping hands may go unnoticed by many of us.
Claudia Williams is just such a volunteer.
Both Claudia and Jody Knoten, Children’s
Ministry Assistant, have lost track of how many
years Claudia has volunteered in that department.
Both agree that it has been four or five years.
“We are like sisters,” Jody says. She
knows that she can count on Claudia’s faithfulness
noten each week.
ams and Jody K
Claudia WIlli Claudia remembers, shortly after
she began attending SBC in 2003, volunteering in
the Plus Ministry. Rich Payne, head of the workroom, asked her if she’d
consider volunteering in the Children’s Department.
“I can give a day a week to do that,” she decided. Since then, she’s a regular in the department, mostly on
Wednesdays. Her day consists of copying, cutting, and sorting Sunday School materials, set-up for AWANA, and
whatever else she’s asked to do.
Says Jody, “I accumulate piles of stuff that I save for her. That frees me up to do other things. Claudia sells
T-shirts and CD’s at Vacation Bible School time, takes inventory and unpacks orders, does computer entry, and even
runs errands when needed. She has also volunteered to sub for me when I was on vacation! Claudia has a great attitude,
is a joy to serve with and we have become good friends."
Before volunteering here at SBC, Claudia was a Commercial Loan Officer Assistant. She and her husband,
Robert, have lived in the Sarasota area for approximately 35 years.

Antigua, many of whom live on the streets. We played games, performed a puppet show version of
“David and Goliath”, and gave a salvation message. What a great opportunity to laugh and have fun, while sharing
the good news about Jesus! The final day in Guatemala was spent conquering Pacaya, a local (active!) volcano. The
hike lasted seven hours, but the lessons I learned while on the hike will last a lifetime! Through my experiences in
Guatemala, I developed greater faith in the Lord and I saw Him
develop my patience, strength, and character. I am so thankful
to have had the opportunity to serve in His name, and I look
forward to seeing what He has in store for me next!
