Shabana Jumagul Instructor: Chad White 30 April, 2014 All about Enzymes Enzymes are unique, interesting, and

very important to all living organisms. Life dependents on it such as human, plants, animals, and fruits. Enzymes are proteins that works as an organic catalyst that increase or decrease the rate of chemical reactions. What enzyme do is all depends on their two dimensional shape work. If enzymes did not exited then chemical reaction in our body would be too slow and the body would not be able to do thing. Enzymes have two special theory called active site and substrate. There are several things that can change the work of enzyme it can slows down or stops the action of enzyme. This enzyme lab report will explain all about the enzymes. What are enzyme, their activity, importance of enzyme, what triggers them, and what can denature? Enzymes are made of chains of amino acid (used to make proteins) inside the cells and cells contain many types of enzymes. There are many types of work an enzyme can perform which cannot be done without them. They can reproduce, replace, and move things around faster. Enzymes have a place called an active site and substrate (molecule) where the reaction takes place. Just like a car lock and a key which the lock cannot be open with any other keys beside its own key. Enzyme (car lock) and substrate (key) here only substrate can go into enzyme and nothing else. Every cell works specific task therefore, there are different type of cells for different function. Enzyme have a special area called an active site that is where the reaction takes place. Enzymes are very specific to what they do and so are the substrate are specific to a

particular enzyme because they bind with the active site of an enzyme to form an enzymesubstrate complex. Enzymes are important to us because they break down our food for us so our bodies can use it. There are several places were enzymes could be found in human body such as in our saliva, stomach, small intestine, skin, brain, tissues, and in pancreas. Enzymes in our saliva helps to break down starches as we chew and its called amylase. If there were no enzymes in living organism then things would have been too slow to be done. It will cause bad symptoms to our stomach such as constipation, bad gas, have diarrhea, or heartburn. When we eat or chew on food our saliva helps it to break the food down. It will cause bad symptoms to our stomach such as constipation, bad gas, or have diarrhea, or heartburn. Life without enzyme would be hard to imagine all living organisms will not make it through. Enzymes can do so much then we can think of basically everything depends on them.
