Language
Language is a system that relates sounds or gestures to meaning . Spoken language usually involved four elements. The elements of language include: phonology, Semantics, Syntax, Pragmatics Phonology - Refers to sound sounds of a language. About 200 different sounds are used in spoken language. Semantics - Denotes the study of words and Syntax - Refers to rules that specify how Pragmatics - Refers to the communicative their meaning. words are combined to from sentence. functions of language and the rules that lead to effective commutations. Learning language involves mastering each of these elements. Babbling appears at 5 or 6 months of age with single , consonants and vowels then combines different speech sounds and later tone.

Oral Language Supporting Early Literacy


The Oral Language Supporting Early Literacy research initiative seeks to develop the oral language competence of students in the early years, to facilitate early literacy development. The goal of the research initiative is centred around professional learning to support teachers to more effectively plan and implement strategies which specifically target the development of oral language skills in the early years of schooling with a particular focus on the first year of schooling.
