Immigration Policies from the Past

After the depression of the 1890s many people from different countries started to immigrate to the United States. After the very large boost of immigrants in the 1900s the United States became very clustered with the immigrants and the space became very limited. In big cities like New York and Philadelphia, most immigrants lived in dirty and disgusting apartments, called tenements, were shared by several families in one apartment and many died of disease.

Government wanted to decrease the amount of immigration in the United States. To do this, the government passed the Immigration act of 1903 which added four new classes of people that werent admitted to the United States and they were the beggars, anarchists, and criminals that had more than three offenses.

As time went on the government had to come up with more laws to reduce immigration. A new law that the government passed was the Naturalization Act of 1906 which made it imperative to know a little bit of English if people wanted to live in the United States. Another new law that they passed is the immigration act of 1917 which banned asians from immigrating into the United States, and it also introduced a reading test for all immigrants over fourteen years of age, with certain exceptions for children, wives, and elderly family members.

Immigrants groups that came to America now

People come here to be able to practice any religion they chose. Also for jobs. But there were problems along with their arrival such as not passing the mandatory test to be a citizen also the struggle finding work.

Problems Immigrants face trying to leave their country.

The problems some people face while trying to leave their country is not having enough money. Sometimes illnesses can prevent people from leaving their homeland.

Problems women face during this time are there husbands leaving them to take care of their kids by themselves. They also were worked like slaves being given extremely long hours. Problems women face in their homeland are no equal rights. Such as not being able to work at some places or go to school and when they do work its about half of what a man would make.

What nationality are coming to the USA now and why?

Now there is a broader spectrum of immigrants coming to USA, they also come for multiple reasons like famine or wanting to get a job. Or to escape an uprising in their own country.

What are some problems USA is facing because of immigration?

Problems america is facing is a shortage of jobs and increase pollution as well as violence. Another major problem is poverty. Some cities may even be crowded like New York a heavily populated state.

Who is allowed in the U.S.A (groups) and why ?

The groups that will be allowed to come to U.S will be North Korea, Mexico, Burma, and Ect. I picked these because these are some of the major countries that need help. North Korea and the U.S might go to war and people in North Korea dont have to go through all problems. Mexico right now is basically at a drug war, cartels and the police are at war too, and I know lots of people are scared to go to outside because they dont want to get caught in the crossfire. Burma because they are striped from their rights, right now and the leader wont step down and has Burma under his control held captive.

Who would not be allowed to legally immigrate into this country and Why?
The groups that wouldnt be allowed in the U.S would be Russia,China Etc. The reason why they wouldnt be able to come to the U. S would be they would rather help out the enemy than not get involved.

Causes for deportation?

The causes for deportation would be if a and refugees are repeat offenders after three time they will go back to their homeland and wont be allowed back.

How can they obtain citizenship?

They can keep their citizenship by paying all their bills and do whats expected out of everyone in the United States of America.

How are we going to enforce this problem, immigrants crossing the border?
We will enforce this problem by adding bountys to those who make it across the border illegally. And doubling our security around the areas. Thats how we can enforce the problem of immigrants crossing the border.

Penalties For illegal immigrants.

The penalties for illegal immigrants will not be allowed to become citizens for 2 year for being here illegally.
