White House Watch


The Presidents Schedule At 9:55 AM, President Obama will meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the Oval Office. According to the White House, Obama and Merkel are set to discuss promoting economic growth, supporting the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, cooperating within NATO, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and U.S. President Barack Obamas relationship has been frosty over reports that the supporting democracy in NSA tapped her phone. Europes east, and meeting shared security and economic challenges around the globe. Also expect talk of NSA surveillance, a sore spot between the President and Chancellor which led the latter to cancel her last visit to Washington. Vice President Biden will also be in the Oval Office meeting. At 11:40, the President and Chancellor will hold a joint press conference in the Rose Garden.

At 12:45 PM, the two will hold a working lunch, along with the Official U.S. and German Delegations (including Biden) in the White House Cabinet Room. To end the day, at 3:50 PM, President Obama will sit down to talk about immigration reform with business and faith leaders from the Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) community in the Roosevelt Room. The month of May is AAPI Heritage Month. Jobs Report to Be Released Last months job report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics at the Labor Department, always a proven meter to show if the economy is recovering and a factor in the upcoming midterm campaign, will be released at 8:00am this morning.

Morning Joe Scarborough to New Hampshire Former Republican congressman and co-host of the popular MSNBC show Morning Joe heads to Cheshire County, Hampshire today to keynote the county GOPs Lincoln Day Dinner. This will be Scarboroughs second visit to the first-in-the-nation primary in two months, brewing speculation of a potential presidential run, which the TV host has shot down. MSNBC came under fire for allowing Scarborough to headline the GOP fundraising event, despite barring another MSNBC host, liberal firebrand Ed Schultz from speaking at a local Florida Democratic committee event in March. The network claims that Scarboroughs event in the Granite State today is not a political fundraiser. Since 2007, Scarborough has co-hosted Morning Joe, and previously served six years representing Floridas 1st district as a Republican in the U.S. House.

The Presidents Schedule: White House Correspondents Dinner One of the biggest events of the political calendar is Saturday, the always-funny White House Correspondents Dinner. A Washington tradition since 1920, in recent years, the Correspondents Dinner has included journalists, celebrities, and funny speeches by the President of the United States and a roast from a comedian. This years dinner celebrates the 100th anniversary of the White House Correspondents Association. On Saturday, a roast of the President, his Administration, and other capital figures will be offered by actor/comedian Joel McHale, star of the NBC series Community and host of E!s The Soup. You wont be sorry. 2016 Central: Hillary Clinton to Receive Order of Lincoln Chicago native and former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, a potential candidate for the Presidency in 2016, will be awarded The Order of Lincoln on Saturday, Illinois highest honor for professional achievement and public service. Sunday, May 4 Political happenings on tap for Sunday: George H.W. Bush to Receive JFK Library Prize Also, this Sunday is the awarding of the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award, awarded annually by President Kennedys family to honor JFK and recognize political courage in public servants that Kennedy admired. The prestigious award will be presented Sunday by President Kennedys grandson, Jack Schlossberg, at the John F. Kennedy President Presidential Library to former President George H.W. Bush for his political courage in agreeing to a 1990 budget reversing his campaign pledge not to raise taxes, jeopardizing his re-election. Also receiving the award Sunday will be former Uvalda, George mayor Paul W. Bridges, for risking his office by opposing a controversial Georgia immigration law.
