Headmasters Corner
I am delighted to announce that we can now add Westonbirt to the growing list of Senior Schools that will offer our children both deferred places and scholarships. It has become evident that with the Summer Term here more children are attending both breakfast and supper. May I please ask that children are booked in advance so that the correct catering arrangements can be made. And finally, as with previous years, the school will be open on Monday 5th May.

Lower School Clubs

The Lower School Clubs have started this week and well done to all the children for their enthusiasm. Lower School Book Club members are reviewing a large selection of books for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Children's Book Awards. Look out for their reviews on http:// www.carnegiegreenaway.org.uk/shadowingsite/index.php

Athletics
A great start to the term with the children already gaining 14 gold awards in our UK Athletics Scheme. Athletes of the week are Olivia Banks, Alvaro Daguerre and Otto Cullis. Keep training!

The Tockington Manor Triathlons - Saturday 21st June 2014

In conjunction with the first ever Tockington Manor Family Fun Day we are delighted to announce that K2 Sports shall be running a series of Triathlons here at Tockington Manor on Saturday 21st June. For those children wishing to enter the more serious events, parents should log on to the K2 Sports web site, https:// secure.melonet.co.uk/k2sports/overview?NBKids-2014 and use the following voucher number to ensure that a discounted rate is charged, MPSYQRN3. For those families wishing to enter the more fun try-a-triathlon registration will take place at school from 11.45am. Children may enter so that they can simply have a go at a triathlon for the first time or alternatively this race can be entered as a family where parents and children either do a separate leg or decide to do it together for a bit of fun. The triathlon events will run along side the Family Fun Day which is being organised by the Friends of Tockington Manor School. As the event shall be held on a Saturday all children from Years 5 to 8 should be dropped at school at the usual time but should then be collected and signed out at 11.30am to allow access to all the family fun provided. Children from every year group will be involved in the running of their class stall and, in addition, children will be singing in the various choirs during the course of the afternoon. This includes the first every public performance from our very own Nursery Choir. Teachers will make you aware of timetables nearer the day. This is the first such event at the school and is very much designed to fully embrace the family ethos of the school by having us all involved in what promises to be a highly enjoyable day together. Please see the K2 Sports poster for more details regarding the more serious races but the try-a-triathlon races will be over: Nursery upwards 25m Swim 400m bike 200m run Under 10 years 50m Swim 800m bike 400m run 11 to 16 years 100m Swim 1600m bike 800m run We look forward to seeing you there.

Celebrating Writing in the Holidays

Well done to all of the children who gave in a fabulous Undercover Exercise Book in Disguise after the Easter holidays. I read every one of the 27 books which were given to me from cover to cover and I enjoyed every single one of them. This is a fantastic achievement, and now you each have a beautiful book of memories for when you look back on your younger days from the comfort of an old, saggy armchair by the fireside! I hope you enjoyed making these books of memories as much as I enjoyed reading them. As for the competition side of things I just could not choose one winner out of the twenty-seven and so each of you has FIVE red stars and a warm glow for your hard work. Happy days. Ms Case
