This document describes Experiment 1 of the Fuel and Combustion Lab course. The objective is to provide hands-on experience understanding gas turbine principles for mechanical and electrical energy generation. Guidelines are provided in attachments describing the gas turbine unit schematic, setup and operation procedures. Results from measurements of ambient conditions and turbine parameters would be recorded on a data sheet. Analysis involves calculating effective and reduced power outputs, accounting for ambient temperature and pressure effects according to international standards.

To provide hands on experience and enhance the understanding on the principles of gas turbine in generating mechanical and electrical energy. The system used in this experiment is ET792 Two-Shaft as Turbine !emonstration "nit. 2+0 Int#odu*tion enerally# gas turbines are always used if high power density# low weight and $uic% starting are re$uired. &ontrary to piston engines# as fluid flow into the machines# they permit high material flow rates in small dimensions. 'n this way# light and# at the same time powerful drives can be reali(ed. )s the moving parts of a gas turbine only perform rotary motion# almost vibration free running can be achieved if the turbine is well balanced. !isadvantages are the high gas speeds and high noise emissions due to the simultaneous connection to the atmosphere. 'n comparison to steam turbines# gas turbines wor% at higher temperatures but with lower pressures. The high temperatures particularly in the area of the turbine re$uire particularly heat resistant materials. 3+0 !"e#imental Guidelines 'n this module# )ttachment * describes schematic diagram of the gas turbine unit with several important explanations and safety precautions. )ttachment 2 tells the setting up and maintaining procedures while )ttachment + depicts the operation of the gas turbine. ,ou need to comprehend the attached guidelines in order to insert all of the un%nown values in the section -.. below. 4+0 'esults 2 BKG3741 Fuel and Combustion Lab Sem II-2012/2013
