testing methods?
2. What are the requirement of penetrate testing methods?
3. Outline the principle of eddy current technique of NDT.
4. Mention the important features of a typical Acoustic Emission signal.
5. What is the principal of magnetic partial method of NDT?
6. How is the thermography used in electronics manufacturing?
7. Why are filters used in radiography? Mention the filters materials used in
industrial radiography.
8. Mention the criteria involved in the selection of an NDT method for the
analysis of defects.
9. What are the specifications used for defects description.

PART B (5 X 16 = 80)

11. (a) Explain in detail the visual inspection method of analyzing defects in a
material and discuss the various optical aids used for that.

(b) Discuss in detail systematically the various steps involved in the liquid
penetrate testing method and analysis.

12. (a) Explain the different types of probes and the procedure of eddy current
method of NDT analysis.

Or

(b) Discuss in detail the Acoustic Emission data display and Acoustic
Emission source location techniques.

13. (a) Explain in details the various steps involved in the magnetic particle
NDT, the different types of lights used, and the different types of
particles used in the technique.

(b) Explain in detail the non-contact thermographic method with different
dimensions. Mention the merits and demerits of the method.

14. (a) Explain the normal incident pulse-echo testing method of NDT for the
testing of defects using different scan modes.

Or

(b) Discuss in detail the radiographic inspection method of NDT using single
wall and double wall techniques.

15. (a) Explain in detail the inspection and analysis of defects present in a heat
treated component by selecting a suitable method.

Or

(b) Compare the thermographic analysis and ultrasonic analysis of defects of
a cast specimen and hence discuss the merits and demerits of these
methods.
