Vision, Mission and Motto

• Vision
To make Mumbai the most efficient place in the world in waste
management

• Mission
To eliminate waste related issues in Mumbai by 2020 and make
recycled goods the most preferred commodities

• Motto
“Mumbai se hai kachra hatana
Aap sabko isme hai humara haath bataana
Kachre ke pareshaniyo ko hatate hai apne sar se
Swachata aakhir shuru hoti hai aapke ghar se”
Initial Investments

• Government Tie- up
– The initial step would be to form a partnership with the Brihanmumbai
Municipal Corporation (BMC) to manage waste throughout the Mumbai
city and Greater Mumbai area including suburbs like Thane and Navi
Mumbai
– This would include using the Government resources and managing the
entire operation of waste management ourselves with a 50-50 share of
profits
– The initial investments would include the following:-
• Equipment for efficient waste collection
• Process for sorting the waste and culling out important waste
• Process to recycle waste effectively
• Branding and creating awareness
• Recruitments and Compensation
Employees

• The entire region of Mumbai would be divided into 8 major zones –

South, South Western, Central, Harbor, Western suburbs, Central
Suburbs, Thane and Navi Mumbai
• Each region would have a Collection Zonal Manager (CZM) and a Sales
Zonal Manager (SZM)
• The role of the CZM would be:-
– Ensure effective collection of waste in his zone
– Supervise the separation of useful and useless waste
– Supervision of the collection equipment and maintenance
• The role of the SZM would be:-
– Ensure the useful collected waste is recycled properly and converted to a
saleable commodity
– Ensure directly saleable items are channelized properly
– Coordinating with other SZM’s and ensuring the saleable goods in other
zones are routed through effectively
– Supervising sales figures from saleable commodities and managing
inventory
Involving the Mumbaikars

• All the residents of Mumbai should be made equal stakeholders in the

entire process

• There must be weekly prizes for the most waste effective household and
corporate house in a particular area as well as zone

• These winners must be displayed on a large hoardings to acknowledge

their achievement and make everyone compete for the honor

• There must be social networking sites like Facebook and Orkut as well
as blogs creating awareness and a platform for all Mumbaikars to
discuss various issues related to waste management in their area/zone

• These internet media should be used to gauge issues related to waste

management and take appropriate actions to address the various
concerns and keep people involved
Branding

• The company must use viral marketing techniques through word of

mouth publicity and social networking sites to ensure awareness of their
program

• Aamir Khan must be the brand ambassador of the company featuring in

Television Commercials and Print Ads

• Aamir Khan carries an image of a socially conscious person and is also

very famous with all age groups and hence, the mass would be able to
identify with him propagating the company and asking people to get
involved
Collection Process

• Collection
– Bi-annual distribution of eco friendly dustbins to all corporate houses
and residential families in their zones for different categories of waste
– Daily collection of waste from respective dustbins of a particular area
going to the corresponding category of waste in a huge waste mound
• Sorting
– Collection of all waste in a particular zone at the zonal dumping grounds
– Sorting the waste into 3 categories: Useless waste, Recyclable waste,
Directly saleable waste
• Disposal
– The useless non recyclable waste should be disposed off immediately by
using eco friendly techniques such as burying which would act as
manure
Sales Process
• Markets
– A central market must be created in the heart of the city which would
sell only items which are recycled from waste
– The pricing of these items would be the major attracting factor for
buyers
– Zonal markets should also be created to sell commodities with shorter
shelf lives
• Recycling
– All the useful waste should be recycled to create saleable commodities
which are substitutes for new commodities at very low prices
– The waste should be recycled to form commodities such as notebooks,
pens, boxes, steel items, furniture which are not consumed
• Sales
– A sales and distribution system should be put in place which routes
these recycled commodities to the central market and to zonal markets
– The system must satisfy demand and supply of all the zones
Revenues

• The major source of revenue would be the service charges obtained

from the households
• Three categories of service charge must be created: A low amount must
be charged from household families; a higher amount should be
charged from corporate houses; Industries and Manufacturing units
should be charged heavily as they generate maximum waste
• The sale of the recycled items at various markets would be the next
major source of revenue
• The company should also tie up with all NGO’s having cleanliness and
waste management as their motto and set up a social marketing
campaign named “Swachata aapke ghar se shuru hoti hai”
• A considerable portion of the sales revenue of the recycled commodities
must be invested in environmental enhancement and waste reduction
techniques in industries
