• Abundant and constant precipitations
• Large rivers
• Great diversity of plants
• Great diversity of animal species (especially birds
and insects)
• Sparsely populated. Inhabibitated by tribespeople

SAVANNAH GRASSLAND
• Tropical climate
• Hot temperatures (not as high as in equatorial
climate)
• Abundant precipitation concentrated in one season
• Dry seasons
• Vast expanse of grass that changes colour according
to the season
• It´s located between jungle and steppe
The savannah in the world
• Arid area
DESERT
• Almost nonexistent precipitations

• Temperatures vary greatly between

day and night

• Very poor vegetation and fauna,

limited to the oases
DESERT
–Two kinds of deserts
–Hot deserts:
–Around the tropics (Sahara is the most important)
–Very high daily temperatures (around 50º C)
–Cold deserts:
–Although the summer temperature is high, they have
cold winters (around -10º C)
–Gobi desert, in Mongolia, is the most important

•Three kinds of landscapes:

–Sandy
–Stony
–Rocky

TEMPERATE GRASSLAND
• Also kwown as Steppe
• Big areas in Asia
• Cold and wet
• Grasses, bushes and few trees
Temperate grassland
DECIDUOUS FOREST
• Mild tempertures all the year because
of the influence of the ocean
• Oceanic climate
• Abundant precipitations in all seasons
• Fertile soils
• High density of population
• Deciduous trees: oaks, beechs…

MEDITERRANEAN BIOME
• High temperatures in summer and mild
temperatures in winter
• Scarce precipitations
• Men has contributed to the retreat of
the forest, replaced by bushes
• Wheat, vines, fruits and olive trees

Coniferous Forest (Taiga)
• Cold temperatures and snow

• Pinetree
• Fir
• Cedar
• Evergreen trees
Coniferous Forest (Tagia)
TUNDRA
•Low Temperatures Areas of permanent ice
•Vegetation: mosses and lichens
• Scarcely population
• Polar bears, Artic foxes…

HIGH MOUNTAIN AREA
• Cold and damp (wet)
• Extreme cold temperatures
• Rain and snow
• -0,6º C per 100 metres
• Different vegetation in different levels
