This is an Urban Planning Academic Programme entitled Land Use and Site Planning: Banting and Jugra, District of Kuala Langat, Selangor Darul Ehsan. 2 ORGANIZER
First year students from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment, University of Malaya. The list of organizing committee is as per Appendix 1a. 3 PROGRAM DETAILS
This academic expedition is part of the teaching and learning process in Urban and Regional Planning course BUEU1205 Studio II Site Planning and BUEU1106 Land Use and Site Planning. The course is a stepping stone that enables student to identify the key concept of land use and site planning. They will also learn the importance of land use and site issues in spatial planning and also identify the various challenges in spatial planning practices. Other than that, it helps to discover site development problem and potential with explaining the land use zoning of the places. Therefore in order to expose students to these elements, students need to carry out site visits to the areas under study.
3.1 Objectives
The followings are the objectives of the academic visit to Banting and Jugra in Kuala Langat, Selangor D.E. to facilitate the fulfilment of the above requirements. To impart students with hands-on experiences in examining sites for land use and site planning in accordance with the Town and Country Planning Act 1976 and the related laws through guided site visits.
To update students on current states and also districts development conditions, planning practices as well as planning issues and problems through observation throughout visit to Banting and Jugra in Majlis Daerah Kuala Langat (MDKL) Selangor.
To provide students with the opportunities to meet and conduct face to face discussions with resident within the administrator of the local authority in order to understand the needs and also current situation of land uses and site planning. The above objectives will support the achievement of the learning outcome of this course as stated in the course Pro Forma. Accordingly it is stated in the course Pro Forma that at the end of the course, students are able to:
Discover site development problems Perform site survey and analysis Determine the site issues Discuss site development potentials Explain land use zoning

3.2 Justification
This academic visit is an add-on instrument to the studio-based teaching and learning of spatial planning in land use and site planning which will make teaching and learning more effective.
Discussion with Kuala Langat residents will provide students with first-hand information related to problems of the land use planning in fulfilling the element or key concept in spatial planning and also preparation and implementations especially the feasibility and viability of existing planning objectives, development strategies and policies with land use and site planning in the current Kuala Langat District Plan (RTD Kuala Langat).
Site visits throughout the district will make the students come into contact with or experience the various characters of sites i.e the elements of land use and site planning directly therefore will make students comprehend the importance of these elements in spatial planning of the site visited.
This academic visit also teaches students of the organizational skills as students are involve directly in arranging and managing the visit through committee tasks as per appendix 1b.

In 2001 land area increased to 62 294 sq. km. In 2006 land area was increased to 857.70 sq km, including 3 nautical miles
Total Holdings In 2001 the total holding is 30,000. Holdings are of various types such as residential, commercial, industrial & agricultural.
Total Population In 1991 total population was 46,588 people In 2001 total population was 97,405 people In 2011 total population was 272,893 people

This academic expedition will consist of field observations and interviewing with the local resident within the Kuala Langat, Selangor local authority area. The list of areas and activities to be carried out during the expedition is presented as Appendix 3. 5 PARTICIPANTS 5.1 Participating Students The name of the participating students is as presented in Appendix 4. 5.2 Participating Lectures The name of the accompanying lecturers is as presented in Appendix 5. 6 ESTIMATED COST 6.1 Budget for Students The budget for participating students is as presented in Appendix 6. 6.2 Budget for Lecturers The budget for accompanying lecturers is as presented in Appendix 7.
7 CONCLUSION
It is hoped that students can gain wide-range of knowledge and information about the district of Kuala Langat planning system and identify the importance of land use and site planning of the area throughout the completion of the proposed academic visit to Kuala Langat Selangor. Accordingly the committee sincerely hopes that the students academic programme will get full support from all parties to make the programme successful.
