May is the Month of Mary
My Queen, my Mother, I give
myself entirely to you, and to
show my devotion to you, I con-
secrate to you this day my
eyes, my ears, my mouth, my
heart, my entire self without
reserve. As I am your own, my
good Mother, guard me and
defend me as your property and
possession. Amen
We are in our second last month! The school year has been full of buy months, how-
ever May and June are always crazier! It is imperative that you look at the calendar
for all the activities as there have been many changes from the magnet/handbook
calendar which had been sent out at the beginning of the year. Some of the
Achievement tests and final exams for Junior High and High School are starting in
May.

We do have a very special event happening in the month of May, our first grade 12
Graduation. This will be held on Friday, May 30 and the preparations are in full gear
right now. I know that this Graduation is very important and I would like to express
my gratitude to this group of students and parents. I am very aware that it was not
always easy being the first group that had been the oldest in the school for the last
five years. Every year was new and brought its own challenges to the school and for
the staff.

There is 13 of you that did believe in us and didn`t give up on St. Marys. Some of
you have been at the school for the last 13 years. I know that sometimes changing of
schools was discussed in the family, and there may have been some pressure from
your peers and sometimes from your family. I also know that socially there are limi-
tations as well, as there are not always as many options as are in the bigger schools.
At the end of the day, I also know that we never give up on any one of you and that
you received an Education that I am proud. Maybe all the options were not available;
however the relationship that has been created with all of you from the staff is
what counts at the end. These young men and women are ready to be in this world
and are equipped to make good decisions. We always and will always love you and care
for all of you. This is what St. Marys is: faith, love, caring and passion.

Thank you parents and students for not giving up on our little school; we believe in
you and believe in our school! Always keep God in your journey!

Faith Series - Our Ascension Soil
The Feast of the Ascension we cele-
brate this month commemorates Christ
return to heaven forty days after the
Resurrection and is the final event of
Jesus early ministry. Like Jesus, our
work here on earth commemorates the
time we have spent putting Gods work
on action. What a wonderful journey we
have been on this past year tilling the
soil (students and staff) God has given
us this year.

Our school year has been filled with
moments when we have mirrored the
life of Jesus in our regular school day.
We have fed the hungry with countless
food bank donations, we have sheltered
the homeless by helping to build a house
for Habitat for Humanity and we have
clothed the naked by supporting the
Coats for Kids campaign. These are just
few of the countless examples that
show how rich our soil has become.

Let us pray that with just over 8-9
weeks of school left this year that we
continue to nurture the type of soil
that we will enable us all to become
saints. That just like Pope Francis will
celebrate the lives of two saints on
April 27
th
(Pope John III and John Paul
II) that one day to, our life will be cele-
brated as a saint not only by our whole
school community here in Grande Prairie
and District Catholic Schools, but by
the larger church as whole. As the
three words chosen for our district
letterhead suggest, may our earthly
work Inspire, Create and Believe.
