Surgical Duties
Above all other responsibilities, a chief surgeon is daily engaged in surgical procedures. In
addition to holding a medical specialty in general surgery and possessing extensive
experience performing a broad range of surgical operations, the chief surgeon is responsible
for educating residents and fellows during each medical process. The chief surgeon manages
all daily surgeries, and must be available to supervise and evaluate all procedures performed
in the surgical ward of the hospital.
Leadership
The chief surgeon oversees the daily activities within the surgical unit. He is considered the
head surgeon and must manage the hiring of surgeons in the unit. He is responsible for
supervising and motivating all members of the staff, including nurses and other health-care
professionals employed in the surgical unit. With patient safety and satisfaction as the No. 1
goal, the chief is responsible for supervising all clinical work and implementing program
rules and protocol.

Hospital Relations
The chief surgeon job carries public relations responsibilities that require him to maintain a
positive rapport with neighboring hospitals and internal faculty and staff. He may arrange
