Time Task Organization Cues Challenges and Modifications 5 min. Introduction: Review the three phases of the hurdle. The teacher will also ask one Students are lined up on the starting line Approach: - 8 steps to first hurdle
student to physically demonstrate a proper lead leg and trail leg. Once the demonstration is over the teacher will show pictures of athletes performing hurdling properly. -Approach -Take-off -Hurdle Clearance Assistant teacher will demonstrate hurdling over the hurdle. facing the instructors. Cones will designate the starting line. Students must start behind the cones. - Begin horizontal - Start with lead leg Take off: -Fast lead leg -Take off on trail leg Hurdle clearance: -Toe up -Straight lead leg -Tuck trail leg behind hip 10 min Performance: 1) The three lanes will be given a signal to begin to clear the first hurdle. Once the student in that lane hurdles over the last hurdle the next person in line will go. Students will focus on getting their lead leg knee height or higher. The students will complete the hurdles once with left lead leg and once with right lead leg to choose their preference 2) Students will go three times at a jogging pace. The students will give their peer feedback on either something they did correctly or something they can work on. 3) The students will three times at a sprinting pace. Once the student hurdles over the last hurdle they will clear the lanes and walk on the perimeter of the lanes in order to return to the lines. Same cues as above Can you find any errors in your peers form? How can they improve their form?
Challenge: - Imagine a life sized hurdle. How high can you get?
Modification: -Perform the motion beside the hurdle -Change your lead leg spring pace the students next in line are responsible for analyzing the quality of movement from the athlete performing. The students will complete the peer assessment checklist. 4) Finally two volunteers will be asked to demonstrate a freeze frame of the proper lead led form and trail leg form 5 min Closure: 1) The students will finish by completing a sheet about common errors they have witnessed in while analyzing their peers performance. 2) A volunteer would be asked to share their results from the analysis questions to the class. Students will return to the classroom to complete the analyzing questions. Each of the three lanes will be assigned one of the stages of hurdling. They will need to find groups of three with one student from each lane.
Peer Assessment Check List: Mostly Sometimes Never Straight lead leg (at least knee height) Lead Leg toe is up Trail leg tucked behind hip
Analysis Questions:
Name:
