RE: Legal Case of Mr Ali Ammoun and Relationship With Catholic
Prisoners

Your Holiness,

My name is Ali Rashid Ammoun. I am a prisoner in a Western Australian prison. I am a Lebanese
Muslim/Australian and have been convicted of the attempted murder of my ex-wife and mother in law. I have
served 8 years of a 16 year sentence.

My case is unique in the level of corruption that has taken place. It is not a matter that perhaps Your Holiness
would deal with and I am aware that it is unlikely that you will see this letter but I would like your office to be
aware of the relationships I have formed with prisoners who are of the Catholic faith. I write also because I am
told that the Catholic Church wields influence in Western Australia and my ex-wife was/is Catholic before she
married and converted to Islam and I feel there is a strong connection with this aspect of my life and what has
happened.

I have included a 5 page letter written to various media outlets which gives but a small taste of the lunacy of my
case. Just a short summary comes to 56 pages. As it is, I am moving towards the High Court of Australia where
it is believed I will finally get some justice. But, this is not the reason I write to Your Holiness.

Several prisoners who are Catholic advised me to write to you. We became good friends while incarcerated
together and they are helping me with my case. They have helped me write this letter from outside the jail as my
mail has been grossly interfered with in the past from Acacia prison.

Your Holiness, I feel strongly that my wifes reversion to her Catholic faith out of spite to me and her
marriage to a Muslim originally, has had some effect on what has happened to me. There was clearly an
element of racism and religious bigotry in how the case was handled by detectives and the judiciary. This is not
just my own opinion.

I see that you are originally from South America and my friends have urged me to address you because they
consider you a much more earthy and down to earth Pope who is leading great changes within the Catholic
Church.

Several judges in Western Australia are Catholic and highly regarded. Two of which are Chief Judge of the
District Court Peter Martino and Supreme Court Justice Robert Mazza.

At first I was bitter at the Catholic Church and my ex-wife, who I believe was unduly influenced by overzealous
anti-Islamic establishment authority figures here in Western Australia. But I find the deep friendships I have
formed with Catholic prisoners has soothed that feeling. They also believe I will find a new and sympathetic ear
in the Vatican at this moment. Any small indication of an understanding of my predicament would mean a lot
to me and the new friendships I have formed.

Out of interest I would say to you that I obtained a Bible in Arabic while in jail and was impressed with what I
read. Previous to this I had never read the Bible in my own language and had only briefly read extracts of the
Bible, never long passages. I was taken by the amazing strength and dignity of Jesus (PBUH) in the Bible. I
have problems with some Christian theology but my Catholic friends and I have learnt a new respect for each
other and have come to see that Islam and Christianity have more in common than differences.

I hope your office will take seriously my letter and consider that a certain anti-Islamic flavor has infected my
legal matter. I believe my ex-wife has unjustly and vindictively done this. This is not in accord with the
teachings of Jesus (PBUH). My 7 children have also been stolen from me. I cannot even begin to explain the
pain this has wrought on me.

Recently, the main local newspaper has expressed an interest in my case. I hope they will carry my story.

My website is at www.aliammoun.com -

Sincerely, and with warmest regards from far away,

Ali Rashid Ammoun
