yourself)
2. Identify 4 important things happening DOMESTI CLY during the Presidents time in office.
3. Major Achievements (What 3 KEY things did the president accomplish while in office?)
4. Major Legislation (What 3 KEY pieces of legislation did the president sign into law?)
5. Scandals (Did any scandalous activities take place while the President was in office?)
6. Changes to the Constitution (Were any amendments passed?
7. Supreme Court Justices Appointed (who did your president nominate to be on the Supreme Court?
Were they easily confirmed by Congress?)
8. Approval Ratings What was the Presidents highest and lowest approval rating? What events occurred
just prior to the poll to create these rating numbers?


PART 4: FOREIGN AFFAIRS PRESIDENTIAL PROFILE
1. What was the Presidents foreign affairs platform called? (if you cannot find one, then create one
yourself)
2. World Events (Identify 3 KEY non-military events that were taking place around the world during the
Presidents time in office.)
3. How did the President handle these 3 KEY events?
4. How did the President act as Commander in Chief of the Military? (how/when did he use the military,
was it effective?)
5. How was the United States viewed by other nations while the President was in office?

PART 5: PRESIDENTIAL EVALUATION

1. Read each Presidents inaugural address(s) and fill out a Presidential Inaugural Address sheet (see
attached) for each inaugural address.
2. Please reference specific examples from the inaugural addresses for each box in your chart.

PART 6: PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURAL ADDRESS ANALYSIS
1. Develop a rubric you will use to evaluate each Presidents time in office. Use the guidelines (Rubric
Development Sheet) on the next page to assist you in developing your rubric.
2. Fill out 12 rubrics, one for each President.
3. For each rubric, write a paragraph justifying your evaluation of each President. Be sure to use specific
examples to JUSTIFY each evaluation!!!

PART 7: PRESIDENTIAL RANKINGS
1. Fill out the Presidential Ranking Chart (See attached)
2. Please make sure that you have SPECI FI C examples to justify your ranking(s).



Rubric Development Guidelines
Questions that need to be answered collaboratively by your group while designing your rubric:
What 5 things does a President need to do to be considered a good President? These become your
STANDARDS.
What does it take to be Perfect for each standard? What does it take to be Very Unsuccessful?
These descriptions become your CRITERIA. The language in each of these boxes is the key to
having an easy to use, quality rubric.
Tasks/Reminders for your group in designing your rubric:
Fill in the STANDARDS & the CRITERIA in the rubric.
Be sure that anyone can use your rubric, meaning that the language is clear and concise!
Make sure that you are actually evaluating the Presidents level of success is accomplishing his
goals.
Make sure that the rubric is general to apply to ANY President, but not so general that it is hard to
accurately evaluate a President.
