Reports to: Head of Service Development Function: Security , Risk , Integration and Enterprise Architecture GGS: 14 Location: Hatfield Organisation structure & department profile: This role is within the Security , Risk , Integration and EA Architecture Directorate. The Service Development group is responsible for creation, design, delivery and support of IN services and Erlang/OTP based software platforms; the group is also responsible for proposing innovative new architectures or designs that facilitate Agile service creation or bring substantial cost reduction to EE. Role purpose: The role is accountable for the technical and functional leadership of the design of EEs Intelligent Network value added service applications/infrastructure. The role will also be responsible for ensuring that applications created on the EE Intelligent Network Service Creation Environment are created, delivered, documented and supported according to commercial or technical requirements. These applications provide numerous business critical functions that support major EE revenue lines. The role will have a significant influence on the EE services delivery strategy and the project deliveries of EE Marketing propositions, EE Wholesale and EE Products. Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities: (In priority order) Provide technical leadership across the IN services domain with appropriate reference to EE parent organisations or 3rd parties. Oversee design activities across the domain to ensure component designs integrate and interoperate cohesively and that current activities align with strategic network evolution goals. Analyse and inform technical projects, ensuring planned deliveries are achievable, that they call on the most appropriate technical options available and are effectively managing risks and issues. Design and Develop IN services using the IN Service Creation Environment Conceptually link internal service and product roadmaps, EEs strategic network goals, technical roadmaps provided by vendors and market trends to maintain the domain portfolio of 12-24 month focused improvement activities that will inform the budgetary and workstack management cycles. Noted as the technical lead for systems within the domain; lead related activities such as cost to serve modelling and act as the point of escalation to resolve technical/design issues. Using a mixture of deep domain specific technical knowledge, substantial experience of successful delivery and generic analytical/logical skills, coach more junior members of the team and play a formative role in their development. Advise the functional head/line manager on all technical aspects of project resourcing, individual team member development and feedback on staff and team. Coordinate the portfolio of activities across the technical domain to optimise overall delivery plans. Represent EE at appropriate industry seminars, solicit input from vendors (including those with no current relationship with EE) and undertake market searches to ensure EE is choosing from the best possible solutions. Support the solutions, governance and planning functions across Network Services in interpreting strategic direction, turning it into actionable tasks within the domain of responsibility. Use deep technical expertise to influence the strategy, ensuring the capabilities and risks present in the network are appropriately considered by the strategy team and committed to the agreed evolution plan. To keep abreast of, and influence, industry developments to ensure EE is adopting best practice and well placed to adopt emerging technologies. Purpose: To create a medium network evolution plan that aligns immediately realisable evolution steps (12 24 months) to network architecture, consolidation and investment targets. Nature: Negotiating on network roll-out and expansion plans Purpose: To ensure that roll-out plans are aligned with design changes, conversely that designs cater for roll-out requirements (such as scalability and performance measures). Also, that deployment methods are appropriately documented and followed. external suppliers: Level: Account managers & subject matter experts. Nature: Defining and negotiating EEs technical requirements to meet business needs and to influence the vendors roadmap to ensure it meets our future needs. Purpose: To sweep the vendor environment, from existing to potential suppliers, to ensure EE is aware of best in class offerings in the market. Also, to assist in creating synergies in vendor engagements across the portfolio to optimise the delivery of individual projects. external customers: Level: Telecoms buyers or experts in corporate or wholesale customers. Nature: To provide technical consultancy to them, as required to support the leading business unit, in the application of EEs products to their business. Purpose: To support the leading business unit in selling products; to rectify service faults (and provide reassurance to the customer if necessary); to provide a technical point of contact for service migrations. Other key relationship comments: As specified in the role description above, Principal Designers will maintain a strong relationship with the parent organisations (DT & FT), primarily to ensure their effective use as external suppliers. In some domains, EE may also provide a technical consultancy service to the parent organisation; this will also be led by the Principal Designer. Also, as indicated above, Principal Designers will provide technical representation on appropriate external standards or regulatory bodies. Evidence of strong mentoring and coaching skills. Track record of driving the technical development of a team in a rapidly changing market place.
