form in lhe half male half female Ardhanarisvara in lemples. These lvo olhervise called Parvali and
Paramesvara by Kalidasa in his song of invocalion in Baghuvamsa are righlly compared by him lo lhal
elernally inseparable pair lhe vord and sense, vak and arlha, a lrulh vhich Kalyayana, lhe grammarian
slales in his firsl varllika viz. 'Siddhe sabdarlhasam bandhe..' When vord, il's meaning and lheir
