New for Non-Impact Printing: Clariant

Impresses with New High-performance Toner
Components and Pigment Preparations
Muttenz, Switzerland, August 25, 2006 – Clariant’s Pigments & Additives Division is again
exhibiting at this year’s NIP22. The International Conference on Digital Printing
Technologies, which will be held from September 17 to 22 in Denver, Colorado, is the
world’s most important conference in the field of digital printing. International
representatives from Clariant will present the latest developments in toner technology: the
toner pigments Toner Magenta F8B LV 3162 and Toner Yellow 4G, the Toner Wax P 110, as
well as the innovative charge control agent Copy Charge N5P-01 LV 2931. The focus will
also be on pigment preparations for inkjet printing inks for large-scale images and
printing inks for digital photos.

Pigments in modern toners must meet extremely high requirements. Especially for these
applications Clariant has developed a series of colored pigments under the name Toner
with very good dispersibility, high transparency, and excellent compatibility with all other
toner components. In addition, their triboelectric properties can be determined. New
products of the series are the green-shade yellow pigment in Colour Index P.Y. 155, Toner
Yellow 4G and the blue-shade red pigment in Colour Index P.R. 184, Toner Magenta F8B
LV 3162.

Tonerwax P 110 is a new toner wax with a melt temperature of ~ 100 °C, making it an ideal
complement to the series of currently available toner waxes. However, the toner waxes offered
by Clariant are much more than „only“ separating agents in toners—they also serve as agents
that optimize the dispersion of control charge agents and pigments while only having minor
impact on the optic features of the toner systems. They also have outstanding release properties
during the fixation process and allow oil-free prints. Tonerwax P 110 is a white, non-polar,

finely textured „ready-to-use“ powder based on polyolefins. It is recommended for chemical

toners.

With the Copy series, Clariant offers colorless control charge agents that provide an exact and
even charging of the toner. They determine the charging level of the toner and the charge
polarity sign. Copy Charge N5P-01 LV 2931 was developed for negatively charged 1-
component or 2-component toners and is recommended both for black and colored toner systems
on polyester basis. Charge control agents from Clariant feature excellent dispersibility and offer
quick charge-up and long-term charge stability even in changing environmental conditions.

In addition to the above toner components, Clariant also offers Permajet® EBA liq. pigment
preparations for inkjet printing inks. They are especially recommended for large-scale printing
formats. They are based on solvents and are available in liquid form, which ensures easy dosing.
No dissolver is required for their integration. The products are easy to filter, feature low
viscosity and high stability in strong, weak, and ECO solvents. The extremely lightfast and
weatherfast Permajet® EBA liq. preparations are available in yellow, red, magenta, blue, and
black.

Printing inks of the Duasyn®/Duasynjet series create brilliant digital images. Clariant has
developed these colors with outstanding color strength and highly lightfastness especially for
water-based inkjet printing inks. The color components yellow, magenta, cyan, and black make
it possible to print image that almost look „alive.“
