PROMINENT PHYSICIST PROJECT
OBJECTIVE
For this project you will select a prominent physicist, from the past or still living. A large
list available from the Internet and links are available on this site. You will research this
physicists background and provide a written and PowerPoint presentation.

1. You may work alone or in pairs.
2. Select a physicist for which there is enough
information to complete this project.
3. Obtain final approval for your selection. Only one
unique physicist per person (or group) per class
will be permitted. If two or more students are
interested in the same physicist a drawing will be
held. It is therefore imperative that you have a
couple of alternative choices selected.
4. You must obtain information on your physicist
from at least three references. They may all be
from the Internet, textbooks, or interviews from
living physicists.
5. Your written report must be in your own words.
Copying, cut and past from the Internet, in other
words, plagiarism, will not be accepted.

PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS
Part I Written report
The following information must be included in your written report:
Cover page the cover page must be creative, contain a picture of your physicist,
if available, your physicists name, your name(s), period and date. You will also
need to include a famous statement or saying, phrase, or what they are noted for,
on the cover. (Remember I do not want any report enclosed in a binder, folder,
etc. Just staple your report together).
Table of contents list all of the categories covered and their page numbers.
Biography provide a brief background of your physicist including: where/when
born, education formal or informal, type of jobs held, what he/she was/is
famous for, and anything of interest.
Resume create a resume as if your physicist was looking for a job. Include any
articles he/she may have written). You can find samples of resume styles on the
Internet.
Newspaper article write an imaginary newspaper or magazine article, using the
style you find in current issues, on one discovery, theory, or development your
selected physicist is/was noted for. Include pictures/diagrams of your physicist,
discovery etc.
Bibliography at least three references are required. Your textbook may not be
used as a reference.
NOTE: Creativity and originality will be a major component of your grade.
Part II Oral presentation
The following information must be included in your oral presentation:
Use PowerPoint or some other technology to present your project to the class.
Your presentation must range from 2 to 3 minutes in length.
Your oral presentation may not be read from notes, or note cards etc. You must
know your physicist.
Include a brief biography (20 to 30 seconds) and an explanation of the physicists
discovery, theory, or invention in a manner that will make it understandable to
your audience.
